Fight Night 36 Results: Souza Dominates Carmont en route to Decision Win

The ground game of Jacare Souza won him the decision victory.

Francis Carmont got taken down early on in the first round and it all looked to be going downhill for him from there. Souza transitioned right to back control and locked in a body triangle. Carmont defended the rear naked choke for nearly five full minutes and that surely took some energy out of him.

The second round was an improvement for Carmont solely because he was in no position to get submitted. Souza ducked under Carmont’s strikes and landed countershots of his own. Carmont went right back to almost being submitted in the third round as he fought off the rear naked choke, once again, for nearly five full minutes. At the end of the fight, Francis Carmont raised his hand to try and convince the judges of his victory, much to the chagrin of the crowd.

Depending on the performance of the main-eventers, it is possible Souza locked up the position of number one contender with this win.

Jacore Souza def. Francis Carmont by way of Unanimous Decision (29-28, 29-28, 30-27)

Souza beat Weidman?….LMFAO…Neither one of these two dudes can beat Weidman…boring hug and rub jitz….That shit should have been stood up. Boring Souza with no boxing. Just another shitty striking brawler neck cranker. Weidman and/or Belfort will send this guy home.

    • Dana White says:

Lol. Too bad they won’t fight considering Belfort will KO Weidman. I think Belfort also KO’s Machida and Souza.

      • Gargoyle Wrestling says:

Lol…If Belfort can beat Weidman, which I doubt, then I’m with you. Machida or boring hug and rub jitzer like Souza has NO chance and will go to sleep. Either way, Machida is retired and Souza is close to being done.

        • Dana White says:

Did you just say Weidman would choke out Jacare? Lol…. why should anyone take you seriously with a ridiculous statement like that? Jacare is the best grappler in the UFC, nobody will be tapping him out.

        • Gargoyle Wrestling says:

Bro…have you ever heard of a KO before??(sleep?) come on now…and yes Weidman can choke out anybody too. Souza looked terrible against a kickboxer.

    • Xaninho says:

So you love wrestlers like Fitch and Askren who keep ‘top control’ which is nothing more than evading the fight by humping the opponent, and yet you talk down on a guy who took the back of his opponent and actually tried to finish the fight with RNC’s and neck cranks?

      Where’s the logic in that?

      • Gargoyle Wrestling says:

But its the same bs you complain about with top control. You are being hypocritical by not seeing that Souza couldn’t do shit and that should have been stood up. Whereas a wrestler with top control can gnp, grab an arm etc. They are always working while dominating the opponent. Souza couldn’t do shit with a kickboxer for Christ’s Sake even though he was trying to neck crank. So what is the difference? Lay and Pray or Hug and Rub Jitz? They are the same, if you stand up a wrestler in a dominate position, then you need to stand up a jitzer in a dominate position too!

Doesn’t that make sense to you? Souza and Machida were the worst fights, I’ve seen in awhile.

        • Xaninho says:

The issue with the LnP is that they hardly ever get stood up. If a wrestler in topcontrol would actually try to finish with GnP or even tries grabbing an arm I would be fine with it too, I like a good ground game. The reality is that they do nothing. When that happens you are perfectly fine with it and you call it ‘topcontrol’.

Now a BJJ guy has someone’s back and is trying to choke him out non-stop (Carmont showed he put in the hours defending RNC’s during his fightcamp by the way) and you want the ref to stand them up. That is being hypocritical.

        • Gargoyle Wrestling says:

Then you should support a HnRubber that can’t finish in ONLY one way to be stood up. TopControl gets stood up all the time. When was the last time a HnRub got stood up??

My position is simple. Top-contol can score in a multitude of ways, gnp, arms, elbows, knees to the body, etc. BUT a back-control can Only try one way and that is a neck crank/choke. Therefore, top-control is much more dominant then back control. Do you agree? Nobody’s getting KO’d or TKO’d from back-control.

I just think your bias is evident and you don’t want to see that these hug-n-rubbers are in a less dominant position and that if an opponent like Carmont has stifled them, then it should be stood up. It’s hypocritical to not agree.

        • Xaninho says:

No it’s common sense to not agree.

        • Gargoyle Wrestling says:

          You know you lost.

Weidman will get crushed by Vitor schooled by Machida and tapped by Souza. I cant wait till these fake newbie Weidman nuthuggers disappear. He is the luckiest guy in sports right now. Those Silva fights only proved what real fans already knew. Silva is a showboat and finally paid for it. He was toying with Weidman. Their second fight was a freak accident. Nothing else. Neithet was a dominant showing for Weidman. His time is coming. No more luck. And Im not even a Silva fan…

    • Levi Mitchell Trudeau-Syrette says:

I agree Weidman did get lucky in the first fight and those Weidman nuthuggers all say that Silva would’ve got out classed the rest of the rounds lol …. Weidman is bigger and stronger but Silva is more technical/smarter overall better fighter…. and yes Silva is known for his “showboating” and its true Weidman just happened to be the guy to catch him.. I also believe that Silva is on his way out in MMA(close to retirement) mostly because of age… obviously he still wants to fight but there just comes a time when your age will become the problem why you can no longer compete at the division/level you once “dominated” OR competed in. Silva’s biggest opponent is his age while Weidman is young/healthy and still has many years to compete and prove he IS the MW champion…. I think Vitor is the best test for him right now…. I think if Vitor was not allowed to use TRT anymore he wouldn’t be top 10 anymore lol….
