Ferguson vs. Rio Set for UFC 166 in Houston

By JAKE CHASTAIN

| News broke Friday night (July 12th) that a lightweight battle between two TUF competitors is set to go down this fall in Houston, Texas.

UFC officials have announced that TUF 13 winner Tony Ferguson will be going to war with TUF 15 contestant Mike Rio at UFC 166 on October 19th, 2013 at the Toyota Center in Houston, Texas. The card is scheduled to be headlined by a heavyweight rubber-match title fight between Junior Dos Santos and Champion Cain Velasquez.

It is still unclear what positioning Ferguson vs. Rio will get on the event but it is likely the two will do battle on the preliminary card of the evening.

Ferguson (13-3) will be making his first octagon appearance since May of 2012 when he dropped a unanimous decision to Michael Johnson. That loss snapped a six-fight winning-streak for Ferguson, with three straight wins in the UFC, and marked his first loss since October of 2009. Tony will be looking to rebound from that loss and get himself back on the winning track in Texas come October.

Mike Rio (9-2) will be standing in his way and he’ll also be looking to rebound after a loss in the UFC. Rio will be coming off his first official UFC defeat as he lost to Francisco Trinaldo at UFC on FX 8 last May. Mike Rio is  1-1 in the UFC and will have a huge test in front of him as he tries to topple the former TUF winner in Ferguson.

Both men are in definite need of a win to stay relevant in the extremely talent rich UFC lightweight division.

UFC 166 will air live on PPV with the prelims airing on FOX Sports 1 and Facebook. For more information, updates and announcements concerning UFC 166 click here and be sure to stay posted to BJPenn.com
