Fedor Emelianenko vs. Jeff Monson Booked For M-1 Event in Russia

According to multiple reports, “The Last Emperor”, Fedor Emelianenko has booked his next opponent in the form of one-time UFC title challenger, Jeff Monson.

Our sources have indicated that while not official, verbal agreements are in place and contracts are expected to be issued shortly.

It has been highly speculated that Emelianenko would reemerge on the Russian scene for his promotional home M-1 Global since being released by the ZUFFA brass from his Strikeforce contract after his third straight loss inside the Strikeforce cage.

The proposed date at the moment is set for November 12; however both date and venue are still not confirmed for the heavyweight superstar’s return, who will likely compete in Moscow, Russia.

Fedor was last seen in action in a losing effort to Dan Henderson this past July. It marked his third straight loss and the end of his American soil based career with Strikeforce. Prior to the Henderson defeat he was finished by both Antonio Silva and Fabricio Werdum under the promotion.

Jeff Monson is a former UFC heavyweight with a wealth of international experience and an A-grade grappling pedigree. He was last seen in a losing effort to rising star, Daniel Cormier under the Strikeforce banner this past June. The loss snapped an 8-fight win streak; however Monson has won 17 of his last 21 fights.

Jeff Monson… Really? That’s sad. No offense to Monson but anything less than a knockout in the first couple of minutes and that’s a wrap for Fedor’s career.

  5. M-1 milking the GOAT for every penny!

  6. Jason says:

This is whats its come to with M1, Fedor vs Monson? Time to hang up the gloves Fedor. Leave the sport with some self respect!

  7. Nathan says:

Don’t forget that MMA is not pure entertainment, if Fedor wants to keep fighting then let him; it is job after all.

This is a fight I don’t like. I usually love watching one of the most humble and greatest men in MMA when he fights; however, in this situation, it seems that a fight is being made not in the best interests of the fighter. When Fedor lost to Henderson you could see it in his eyes that he felt he was done. I too was fairly confident that he would win that fight, and I like Henderson. After the fight you could tell that something was gone. I don’t know how they do it in Russia but when Liddell started his losing streak, Dana White, as a friend and boss, told him he was done. Now it seems that M-1 global has different intentions. I mean come on, what else does Fedor have to prove?

Jeff Monson is coming off an 8 Win 1 loss run, and has won 17 of his last 21. The guy has had some decent competition over his career. Fedor has fought better though. And that is solely my opinion. When it comes to Monson, I remember his fight with Tim “who is that guy again” Silvia. He never gave up, and just kept coming. Given his stature, he was like a train. The guy just kept taking punishment and lost a decision. I don’t think that Tim Silvia was much of a talent in the sport, but that’s once again, solely my opinion. But in that fight, Jeff Monson showed the heart of a fighter. It seems to me though that this is one of those deals where Monson has the most to gain from a fight with Fedor. He wins, He, much like Henderson, Antonio Silva, and Fabricio Werdu have beaten one of the greatest fighters of all time. If Fedor wins he just beat….. Jeff Monson. I can hear the pomp and circumstance now. No, wait that was crickets chirping.

I would love to have the opportunity to ask Fedor if he wanted to fight again or if it was his handlers that wanted him to take this one. If he loses this fight, will he then be done? Only time will tell.

What a waste of prime fighting years. All of us MMA fans must thank Fedor’s greedy management team for screwing up the career of one of the best ever. Monson is a nobody, back in 09 the UFC offered Fedor a minimum of 5 million a fight and an immediate shot at Brock (who was Champ at the time). Fedor’s stupid managers wanted more, they wanted the 5 million plus the right to co-promote any card Fedor was on meaning they got half of all the money brought in by sponsers, ppv and ticket sales. I know I know, the UFC is greedy too but at least they TRY to give us our moneys worth by getting the best fighters in the world in the same cage. Even if Fedor wins it means nothing because Monson is nothing. Now Fedor vs idk any UFC/Strikeforce top 5 guy…it would matter.

Fedor’s management team protected Fedor and extended his career by keeping him out of the UFC. They fed him cans and you clowns bought into the Fedor hype train. If they put him in the UFC he’d of been exposed years ago and his career would be over. They were smart milking all that money from goat, and i don’t mean greatest of all time. I mean Fedor is a goat, a mutt, a bum, a fraud. Yeah the guy is humble but if you knew you were a fraud you’d be too. Werdum tapped him and he’s a UFC reject. Bigfoot beat the snot out of him and he got KTFO by a MW. Even Brett Rodgers was pummeling him until he got lucky with a haymaker.

I respect your opinion regarding Fedor not being worthy of his past hype. The thing I always look at is the fact that out of Fedor’s 31 wins in MMA…however out of those 31 wins 24 were by a finish. I don’t know why but I find it impressive when a fighter finishes competition with regularity. Look, Fedor is one of the best ever but in no way is he even near being the best ever or “the MJ of MMA”. Truth be told, Fedor should have been fighting at 205 years ago but he’s too lazy to go through the conditioning to make it happen. Oh well, he’s washed up now and his stupid greedy management team is just convincing him to fight out his remaining contract so they can continue to make money off of him.

  17. O says:

Wowww youd guys are some fuckin gay ass dum ass stupid ass fuckers…fedor is the best heavyweight that ever fought…if not please please one of u smart guys tell me who is thw hw goat??? Nog? Lol? Crocop? Lol anyone else is not even worth being mentioned unless you are a tuff n00b…and please savw your dignity and dont say brock or cain…lmao cain has 9 fuckin fights..i dont care if he beat evry one of them in the first 3 seconds (which he obviously didnt, almost got knfo by kongo) thats still only 9 fuckin fights…so all u wannabee fighters and tuffers who have never trained a single day in ur life stfu…monson is a respectable top 25 hw for fedor at this point seeing as how he is on a lossing streak…i guarantee fedor will rise again and will be no 1 hw once again…and if he doesnt, so what he ruled the hw division for almost 10 years and noone else came even close ever…

    • mmaislandjunkie says:

no worry about tbaggy and mike. mike thinks hendo is a garbage fighter too. tbaggy is just a loser.

    • Jaedr says:

It’s Randy Couture you fucking moron.

    • Ifan says:

Give it up dude. Fedor, Nog, Crocop and all of these guys are past their prime. The sport has evolved a lot. I mean just look at Fedor – his standup isn’t even remotely as good as that of JDS, Cain or Overeem. His takedowns and takedown defense are not nearly as good to stop a guy like Brock Lesnar from taking him down. And last, but not least – his wild ground and pound makes him very vulnerable to submissions.
Don’t get me wrong. I’m not saying he is weak. He was the absolute best of an era in the MMA world, but that era is gone. The fighters of that era can’t compete with today’s fighters. It’s just the way it is.

    Monson by north/south choke
