UFC light heavyweight fighter, Fabio Maldonado (19-6), will be taking on Joey Beltran this Wednesday at UFC Fight Night 29: Maia vs. Shields.  As fight week draws to its inevitable climax, Maldonado took some time to talk about his upcoming fight and his fans.

The fight between two hard-hitting, primarily stand-up fighters promises to be a slugfest that will only brandish more fans for the Brazilian fighter.  Despite a 3-2 record in the UFC, Maldonado has already accumulated a strong fan base, especially in his native country of Brazil.

It makes me very happy to see the love from the fans,” Maldonado told UFC.com’s Duane Finley.  “It motivates me even more to put on a great show and leave with Fight of the Night.  Fans can expect to see a great fight.  I am more prepared for this bout than ever before.

My fights are always very exciting, especially because my best quality is boxing.  I have noticed every fight my fans have increased, which makes me very happy and inspires me even more to put on a show in the Octagon.  That will certainly be the case against Joey Beltran.

In Beltran (14-8-0, 1NC), Maldonado will face a man who has won just one fight out of his last five, with three losses and one no-contest.  Coming back from a 9-month suspension for a positive test for performance enhancing drugs at UFC on FX 6, Beltran will be hungry.  Maldonado is not worried.

Joey Beltran invited me to this fight.  I don’t know what his game [plan] will be, but I will give 110% in my performance and will hurt and knock out Joey Beltran.  I have great respect for Joey Beltran but I enter the Octagon to get the job done and win.  Certainly in this fight Beltran will confront Fabio Maldonado like no other fighter has before.

Be sure to catch all the action of UFC Fight Night 29: Maia vs. Shields this Wednesday night.  Preliminary fights begin at 5pm/2pm ETPT, airing live on FOX Sports 1.  The main card will begin at 7pm/4pm ETPT on the same network.
