Faber Thinks He Is Just A Smidgeon Off The Top Guys | UFC NEWS

“I feel pretty good, I watched the fight and after the fight, I didn’t feel like I had won the fight, but I didn’t know why exactly. I wasn’t really beat up, I know I broke my rib in the first round and my leg hurt a little bit. I watched it and I was an uneventful fight a little bit. I just didn’t do enough at any given time to say ‘I won that round.’ That was unfortunate to watch. I landed some punches and he would land some, mostly on the back of my head with his wide, long hooks and he landed like five good kicks. (Joe) Rogan was, the commentary was crazy. He was like building his own storyline on it and stuff like that. (Rogan) was talking about how I was immobile and stuff like that, but I was moving the whole time. That was part of the thing was a lot of movement, and stuff like that. But I just wasn’t agreeing with what he was saying, like ‘the pain!’ or ‘oh, he’s limping,’ or ‘he’s really hurt here.’ I guess my rib was hurt, but I don’t know, it was just kind of weird. The whole thing, it was too slow for me. But, I just didn’t do enough man, so it kind of sucks.”

“I mean, I guess. The thing is that I knew exactly when I hurt it. I couldn’t remember after the fight when it was. I just remembered I caught a knee and I was like, ‘Alright, I broke my rib.’ Then I watched the fight and it was two and a half minutes into the first round and they showed a replay of the knee and he hit me like in the back. I decided not to say anything in the corner because I wanted to hear what the coaches had to say. I don’t know how much it really affected me, I never, I mean I don’t know how many other people fought with broken ribs and stuff like that.”

“I’m right there with the top guys. Renan Barao is on a 30-fight win streak. I don’t feel like I was beat up in the fight, I feel like I just lost. I didn’t do enough to win. I landed some good punches, I was elusive in the fight. I just fought Dominick Cruz, I thought won that fight, I knocked him down three times, didn’t really take too much damage there also. It’s not like I’m getting severely outclassed here by any of these guys. I’m just a smidgen off and I’ve got some things to work on. The bottom line is, in the last nine years, I’ve been fighting guys at the top five of the weight class, at whatever the given time is. I don’t think that needs to change. Would I like get some ‘fight of the night’ bonuses? Could I get some bonuses on big fights against [lower ranked guys]? Sure, some entry level guys. But I’m right there at the top, man. I’m right there in the running. If you can line up some guys that are going to beat me up and put me out the running, then let’s do that. But until then, I’m just going to keep training and stay positive.”

Top bantamweight, Urijah Faber, told “The MMA Hour” that he believes he is close to the top of the division, but as recent history shows, is just shy of being good enough to claim UFC gold.

  1. Mike says:

It was a boring fight and he definitely lost, but when I was watching it I was also confused with Rogan’s commentary. I didn’t see the leg kicks piling up or him limping but Goldberg and Rogan kept saying that the leg kicks were winning the fight and I just didn’t see it.

  2. Nick says:

It wasn’t an exciting fight. It wasn’t even the most technical. But I never really saw what Joe was talking about. I mean the leg kicks looked like they would hurt but Faber shrugged them off. It was just a bad night of fights. Prelims saved it for sure from being a terrible card.

  3. told you says:

joe rogans commentary is getting worse bring couture in, alot of fighters dislike rogan for the way he calls fights

    • Rogan rocks! I think he’s by far the best! The fights are 50% of the show. Rogan’s commentary is the whole other 75% (yes, seventy-five percent of the 100% that already had 50% claimed…). Without him, the UFC would still be crawling in it’s diapers. You’ve heard the expression, “One ***** hair has more pull than a team of oxen”? His commentary is like a ***** hair compared to White or the fighters themselves.

      • GET RID OF FITCH (forever) says:

Rogan has turned himself into a propaganda whore for the UFC who is THE MOST BIAS commentator in business. All you have to do is go back and watch any Kenny Florian or Bisping fight with sound on and then with it off and you will see a completely different fight than what actually happened in real life. Rogan has a bunch of favorites who he will EXXAGERATE their fights beyond reality

  4. As you know, MMA fighting is wrestling and striking. Hands are fast but feet reach much farther and hit harder. Therefore the best strikers incorporate hands and feet in their stand-up. Karate is generally 70% hands and 30% feet. Muay Thai and Tae Kwon Do generally 70% feet and 30% hands. There is definitely an advantage in being good with your feet, not to discredit the hands. Muay Thai and TKD are better than Karate because of the preference to the advantages of using the feet.

Wrestling is great when you’re on top, but when you’re on the bottom, nothing like BJJ to turn a bad position into a good one. The best ground game is obviously versed in a good top and bottom game, and the best stand-up incorporates both feet and hands and a good take-down defense, and the best fighters are going to have all of that. So the best fighters not only have a well rounded game, they have a well rounded ground game and a well rounded stand-up game. Figure out what you have and don’t have and go get the latter and you could be at the top like those who already have. Your hands are good, you definitely could use some instruction in good kicking technique IMHO.

    • boxthai says:

Bla bla bla.every body in this site think they know some but they don’t know shit there is no such thing as more kicks or punches on TKD or muay Thai,is a matter of preference, kicks offer more reach, and there for are used more than punches(keep the opponent at distance) who ever give you that info never been in the ring with a real Thai fighter he will punch out your ignorant ass silly

      • Who’s the silly ass here, if you were in my face right now with that attitude, i’d show you with my 5 point palm exploding heart technique! Dumbass!

Faber just got beat by a guy who utilized kicks to keep him away. Faber couldn’t answer cause even tho his hands are good, they’re a lil too short to get the job done. He tried to get in close past the legs and met with a Barao with equally good hands and was forced back out. Why, is that cause Faber is just a smidgen off the top? No. It’s cause the top guys have a well-rounded stand up and a well-rounded ground game. Not just a well-rounded game. Your just a 9 tear old bigmouth idiot Boxthai now stfu please and let the adults talk.

  5. joes jujitsu cc is very good says:

when it comes to jujitsu Rogan is top notch. i havent seen any other CC go into such detail that even someone unfamiliar with jujitsu can grasp whats going on. I find that his stand up is lacking unless they are throwing kicks. This is probably because hes a black belt in jujitsu and i think a purple belt in tae kwon do. i dont think he made the ufc, but i do enjoy agreeing and at times disagreeing with his commentary. His jujitsu commentary like i said before is very layman but also very technical; UFC needs to keep him for that alone.

  6. Stephen A. says:

What i really want to know is why guys go in to the ring to fight, and dont do what they do best. Uriah is a wrestler, not a boxer. Example: Rampage was crushing the competition when he was slamming guys and ground and pounding them. With Rampage the boxer you never know what your going to get but most likely a dull fight. If Uriah wants to get back on top he needs to stick to wrestling, work on other aspects and train at another camp with experienced trainers. Your pupils in your corner acting as trainers are going to cut it. He needs to realize its broken, and needs to be fixed.

  7. Pijan says:

Karate is, I would say, with personal experience, 20% kicks, 70% punches, 10% technique. TKD, once again, with personal experience is about 90% kicks, 10% technique, no punches at all are really involved. Muai Thai, never actually did it, but one of my old coaches was a practitioner, all I know is they have sick knees, elbows, and kicks. The best fighters don’t need to be well rounded, they need to master their game. Anderson Silva has mediocre wrestling. He can defend the take down and submit from his back. GSP has not so great stand-up. JDS hasn’t even really been tested on the ground. The only current champ that shown, even a remotely well rounded game is Jon Jones. But neither his stand up nor his ground game is over the top. At least when I train I train about 90% stand up, (50% strikes, 20% kicks, 20% knees, elbows, technique), you should incorporate movement and footwork with EVERYTHING, your kicks, punches, all of it. The 10% of wrestling I just work on take down defense, counter wrestling (how to get back up when you’re taken down), and submissions. And though it’s underrated, always, ALWAYS work Angles. Why do you think Anderson Silva is so good, cause he can hit you from any angle then circle around you all day without taking a single shot.

  8. LOL about sound off says:

People always say watch the fight with the sound off and blah blah blah.. Are you guys not smart enough to think for yourselves and score on how you see? And not what joe rogan is saying lol.. Sad.

He’s only human FYI. And although I agree on alot of points, I don’t think he’s the most biased ever and it’s not as bad as you guys say it is.. He’s very close friends with Nick Diaz.. And in the condit fight he was saying condit is taking this fight many times.

you guys are idiots. Watch the fight and think for yourselves. Someone commentating shouldn’t have that much influence over who you think won the fight

    • I watch the fight and i judge it for myself and i’m really not great at it so i watch it a few times. I also listen and find myself having my own opinions regardless of what they say. Sometimes they mention something they see from their angle and they miss things we see from our angle. I like Joe tho, like someone said he’s real good at the BJJ commentary IMO. I’ve never got the impression he’s bias. Only thing of late is he almost seems pre-occupied, not as attentive as usual. Still the best tho, hands down.

  9. Pavel Del Monte says:

For everyone complaining about Rogan, what does it matter how he delivers the commentary. The Judges do not listen to Rogan when they are scoring the fight. So why does Faber care what Rogan says, he lost the fight and thats that. Good thing I put money on Rennan, Faber is now 0-5 for tittle fight btw.

  10. I called it for Barao based on fighting style. Good legs, decent hands, and a ground game, vs Decent hands and a ground game. I knew it would go down just like it did, but i expected a knock out for Barao but he ain’t quite as good as me yet, lol. He’s just a smidgen off the top. Good to see some decent kicks finally making it into the UFC.

As for Faber’s recent comments on Joe, that’s just a clip; who know’s the context. Not even fair to publish it like that.

  11. ass chin faber says:

poster boy needs to drop down to flyweight now then he will finally see he is trash
