EXCLUSIVE | Veronica Rothenhausler: “This Is My Time” | BJPenn.com’s Late Night Cage Side Radio

By JAKE CHASTAIN

| BJPenn.com’s Late Night Cage Side Radio invited on a couple of competitors from the upcoming July 13th Invicta 6 event for this week’s episode of the show. One of those women was Invicta featherweight, Veronica Rothenhausler. “The Heartbreaker” will be taking on Mollie Estes on the upcoming card and she kindly took some time out of her schedule to discuss the event, her prep for the fight, and the main event of the card with our boys Chase Raymond and Kinch. Here are some of the highlights from that interview with Miss Rothenhausler:

Veronica, who is now working out with Team Alpha Male in Sacramento, was first asked how her camp and preparations for the fight were coming along. She replied, “This camp has been amazing. I’ve never felt strong. I’ve never felt better. All around this is the best camp I’ve ever had. So I can’t wait to get out there and so my thing with it.”

She was then asked how her weight-cut was coming along. She answered, “You know what, it’s a lot better this time than it has been the last couple of times, that’s for sure.” She went on, “Our practices are super intense so just being in the gym I feel like I’m losing weight.”

Rothenhausler was then asked to comment on how and when she started training with Team Alpha Male. She responded, “I fell into the gym about eight or nine months ago now and my game has just totally changed. These guys are the real deal.”

She went on explaining that the vibe in the gym is amazing and she feels that she is getting better every day and is enjoying the process. She said, “They work so hard but they have so much fun doing it.”

Now that she’s working at Team Alpha Male she’s had the pleasure of working with their new coach, Duane ‘Bang’ Ludwig. She explained that he has helped her out immensely with her striking and she loves the way his mind is constantly ticking for the fight game. “I like to describe him as a hilarious Mr. Miyagi because he’s is a straight ninja,” she said. “I’m super thankful for him and I know the other guys are as well.”

She then talked about her start in MMA and what drew her to the sport. She explained that she has always been an athlete, although she regrets not wrestling in high school, and was always active growing up. On how long she’d been training in MMA she stated, “Going on three years now.” She continued explaining that a friend introduced her to a gym in Reno and she quickly found a new favorite activity. “It really didn’t take long for me to fully fall in love with it and just develop,” she explained.

She was then asked about how she felt about being a part of the Invicta FC organization she replied, “Invicta is, literally, like nobody else. Shannon Knapp and Janet Martin; they are awesome and they are straight bosses.” She continued, “It’s great to go to work, so to speak, and feel like it’s, like, part of a family. They take such great care of you.”

Veronica then talked about how she felt about the main event of the Invicta 6 card between Marloes Coenen and Cris Cyborg Santos. “I think that they are badasses and I am super grateful for them for building the foundation that they have for my weight class, I love that,” she explained. However, she continued, “I’m one of the youngest ones in that weight class and I’m here to stay. I’m super grateful for everything that they have done but, for me, this is my time.”

She continued discussing the main event when she started giving her prediction for the fight. “I think it’s going to be a straight brawl. It’s going to be a war. I know both of those women work incredibly hard at what they do so for them, this is it, right here,” she said. “It’s all or nothing on this fight right here,” I’m very excited to see it.”

She also went on to reflect on how the fight could affect or impact her career when she said, “Also whoever wins and whoever losses dictates maybe who I fight maybe on IFC 7.”

“As far as who’s going to win, I really couldn’t tell you. It’s going to be a full on war.”

Rothenhausler was then asked to discuss her fight on the card opposite Mollie Estes. She stated, “This fight for me against Mollie is my time to go out, make a statement, and, hey man, it’s not a fluke. This is what I do, this is how I get down and, you know, I’m here to stay.”

She then told BJPenn.com what kind of problems Estes brings to her in this fight. She stated, “I would assume that her coaches are telling her watch for the right, watch for the right. My response to that is I have been doing everything that I need to do with the help of Duane ‘Bang’ to hide everything, to kind of disguise my right, because, yeah, my right works for me. That’s real,” She continued, “I think she’s going to want to clinch up with me and potentially take me to the ground,” “I’ve been wrestling with the baddest fools that there are in wrestling. Urijah Faber, Chad Mendes, TJ Dillashaw, Lance Palmer cornered me in my last fight. You know, like, these guys are sick. There’s no girl who’s wrestling like they do. So I’ve been getting after it and I don’t think she’s going to give me anything that I can’t handle.”

“I like how I’m feeling right now.”

Veronica was also asked if, since she’s been working with Team Alpha Male, she’ll be looking for their signature guillotine choke in this upcoming fight. She replied, “We’ve been going over the choke series. I feel comfortable with it. Yeah man, I would love to showcase a little bit more than just standup in this fight because I’ve been working hard on the ground and I feel good there. I feel great.”

She then commented on the news that Invicta was going to be aired on PPV and how much that means to women in MMA. “We work super hard, just like the boys. We grind,” she replied. “We’re all excited to represent Invicta and put on a hell of a show for the world.”

And with the show now being aired on PPV if she felt any added pressure heading into this bout. She explained, “I don’t believe in like, pressure, in what we do. It’s like, we get to fight for a living. That’s super tight. I look at it as an opportunity to get out there and do my thing. You know what I’m saying?” She continued, “I feel more opportunity, I’d say.”

She talked about how much she feels this fight could launch her into the top of contention. She closed by saying, “I’m in no rush. I’m 23. I got plenty of time to be in the game and accomplish…obviously taking the belt is my ending goal. So I feel like this is a good chance to get out there and do my thing.”

“I’m very excited for this fight and I’m very excited about what this fight will do for me in the future.”

Veronica Rothenhausler will take on Mollie Estes on July 13th at Invicta 6 in Kansas City. We thank Miss Rothenhausler for taking the time to talk with BJPenn.com and we wish her all the best of luck on July 13th in her Invicta 6 fight.
