EXCLUSIVE | UFC 167’s Brian Ebersole Offers Fans Rare Opportunities Through Fund A Fighter Program
The intriguing welterweight fighter that is Brian Ebersole has not made an appearance inside the UFC’s Octagon in over a year. That will change this Saturday at UFC 167 as he squares off against the heavy-handed wrestler Rick “The Horror” Story on the FOX Sports 1 Preliminary broadcast.
As part of his UFC 167 journey, Ebersole will bring in a new addition to his corner this Saturday; a Canadian amateur fighter named Collin.
Collin is one of Ebersole’s sponsors within the Fund a Fighter Program; an organization formed to help unite MMA fighters with people and sponsors that can help propel them into a more prosperous career. Collin is Brian Ebersole’s foremost supporter, as he has put a well-invested $2,500 towards Ebersole’s campaign.
In gratitude of his supporters, Ebersole is giving away reward packages for each level of paid support. The Tiger Muay Thai Head Coach has strongly advocated Fund a Fighter’s purpose and voiced his appreciation for their efforts in a recent interview with BJPENN.COM.
“The first time I came across these guys was in Brian Rogers’ campaign going into one of his Bellator fights, maybe a good 8 months ago. That kind of stuck in my head when I came back for my fight. I see these guys in social media, Twitter, and things like that. So I reached out to them on Twitter and ended up talking with a guy named Mike Russell who has been working with them for a while. So we started chatting and I got a bit more familiar with their concept, which is basically asking the fans for support directly from and for the fighter, which I find value in.”
So far, Ebersole has garnered four Fund A fighter backers; Tony, Hoa, Troy, and Collin, all of whose donations are visible on Brian Ebersole’s Fund a Fighter profile. In contrast to some cases in which the UFC takes the reigns of a fighter’s public image and runs it into the spotlight, Fund a Fighter allows the fighters room for creativity; leaving the methods of gathering backers to them.
In retrospect, Ebersole notes the excitement of some of his coaches when he asked them to be a part of his corner for a UFC bout. In an elaborate and astounding move, he incorporated this into his self-marketing. This move paid off within a mere 24 hours. Although the cornerman package has already been snatched up (by the aforementioned Collin), several other rewards are still up for grabs (the deadline for the UFC 167 packages is Thursday).
Not all of us can afford $2,500, unfortunately. No worries, as this sentiment is not lost upon Brian Ebersole or the Fund a Fighter organization. Rewards are still given to those who donated for amounts ranging from $10 to $1,500. While some spectacular prizes are given at every level of donation, various other once in a lifetime opportunities will be given to those who donate at the $300 mark and above. Unique and exciting experiences are up for grabs at Fundafighter.com (donations are transacted via PayPal), such as training at Tiger Muay Thai in Phuket, Thailand with Brian and his team, seminars and business appearances by Brian, and the opportunity to attend UFC 167 and have dinner with Brian prior to his bout with Rick Story.
In addition to Fund a Fighter, Ebersole has also been sponsored and associated with the Vasyli Foundation. This foundation was formed to help young adults from tough backgrounds and rough upbringings to get a good start in the fields of their desired art and/or profession. Regardless of the result of his bout this Saturday, Brian Ebersole has garnered the respect of many not only for his fighting ability, but for his compassion and graciousness towards fellow people as well.
