Exclusive: Rory MacDonald Promises to Embarrass Carlos Condit at UFC 158

At just 23-years-old, British Columbia native, Rory MacDonald has an extremely bright future in front of him. He is already considered to be one of the top fighters in all of mixed martial arts and is already a contender for the UFC welterweight championship currently held by his good friend and teammate at Tri-Star, Georges St. Pierre. Whether those two ever fight one another is a different question for a different day, but it’s safe to say that MacDonald will be contending for a UFC title sooner rather than later.

With an impressive record of 14-1 that includes dominating victories over Nate Diaz, Mike Pyle, Che Mills and former two-division UFC champion BJ Penn, MacDonald has very little to look back on, but that one lone blemish which he suffered at UFC 115 against former UFC Interim Welterweight Champion Carlos Condit back in June of 2010. After dominating Condit for the first two rounds, MacDonald was well on his way to a decision victory before Condit turned up the heat and stopped Rory with just seven seconds left in the third round.

That loss has stuck in the craw of MacDonald ever since and he made his intentions to seek revenge very clear not too long ago. After defeating Penn, MacDonald called out Condit during his post-fight interview and told the crowd in Seattle exactly what he wanted to do to The Natural Born Killer and how he wants him to feel. MacDonald was quick to point out that he is not the same fighter that Condit defeated in Vancouver two years ago.

“I think I’ve improved everywhere, I mean I’ve trained a lot of everything, but I think if I have to pick one thing that’s improved the most it’s probably my wrestling,” MacDonald told BJPenn.Com Radio. “My overall MMA game has changed so much and I’ve added so many different techniques that from where I was when I fought him the first time. I’m just a whole other fighter; I don’t fight anything like I did when we first fought. I just want to do what he did to me; I want to make him feel the embarrassment I felt in front of his family the same way I felt. I want to hurt him the way he hurt me and I don’t want him ever to forget the time that we’re going to be in there for those 15 minutes. I want him to think about that for the rest of his life.”

MacDonald is a very dangerous opponent for anyone in the UFC welterweight division and if you add on the revenge factor, it could very well be a long night for Condit when they meet in March at UFC 158 in Montreal. Some fighters tend to let their emotions get the better of them and it can cause them to make mistakes, but I wouldn’t count on it in MacDonald’s case. Condit is as tough as they come as evidenced in his title unification bout against George St. Pierre at UFC 154. This rematch has fight of the night written all over it.

I don’t doubt you will beat up Carlos…. Badly! Rorys a freakin beast, I don’t see him losing for a loooong time!

  2. WTF says:

I can’t stand this guy, I hope Carlos Condit knocks his block off.

  3. ThomC says:

Why does it say Condit “dominated” him for two rounds. He won the two rounds yes, but I’d say he edged it, not doninated.

    • Brett says:

The article I read says that Mcdonald dominated Condit for two rounds. Not that Condit dominated for two rounds, and yes Mcdonald did dominate the first two rounds. Got stopped with like 5 or 10 sec. left in the third.

      • Jared says:

Please explain to me your idea of domination. Rory won the first 2 rounds, but he didn’t do anything dramatically impressive or dominating. You must’ve just read this somewhere and regurgitated it because it sounded good. It was a fairly even matchup, with Rory being a little ahead, until the 3rd round, where Carlos DESTROYED Rory the entire round. Watch the fight again.

        • gill864 says:

He didnt absolutley dominate the first 2 rounds but he won the first 2 rounds confitably, had rory managed to hold on in last he shoulda won the match by ud but credit to carlos for being able to do what he needed to do in the final round.

  4. unzelle says:

I used to be a huge Rory fan. He is getting to cocky though. Yes he will probably win the belt someday, and yes he has improved since the last time these guys fought. However, Carlos has improved his game too, and Condit is not going to be a walk through at all. It will be a decision victory for one of them.

    • jody foster says:

i agree. I think he may be doing cycles because his temperament has changed so drastically

    • hendoooo says:

Kids these days, he pisses me off when I hear him talk or read what he says. He has no respect, maybe he sees it as a promotion thing but I’m sure I’m not alone when I say keep the shit talking to a minimum, you haven’t won the belt yet so technically you aren’t as good as you think (although you are a good fighter). I see anyone that can throw back punches with this guy will have no trouble beating him to a pulp, GSP will be a jump too far for him, GSPs wrestling mixed with his stand up would be this guys achilles heel IMO, I want to see a good wrestler fight him.

      • Ritalin says:

Hi Hendoooo. Do you know that Rory and GSP are best friends, and training partners. GSP is Rory’s mentor, even though Rory has some immaturity issues and doesn’t seem to like giving people credit, or saying nice things. There is no reason to dislike Rory for being cocky. He absolutely destroys the people he fights, and he makes most people in MMA look like chumps. His attacks are vicious and there is no wasted effort in any of his movements. He is so entertaining to watch, I don’t care how cocky he is, I’m a fan. Rory does compliment the strengths of the people he fights, and he also complimented Carlos after Carlos beat him to a pulp, which takes some amount of humility, so Rory isn’t really a bad person at all.

  5. BB says:

guys what happend to bj after rory fight never heard of him after , he fighting again or not ?

  6. Rory is a great fighter says:

He’s not “getting cocky,” he’s being heard now because the MMA media are more interested in him than they ever were. Cocky are those fighters who use words to attract attention and then fail to deliver in the cage. Rory is not that kind of fighter. The kid is mean…and he seems unbeatable now.

    • hendoooo says:

Hardly unbeatable, will not match GSP punch for punch, unfortunate for him GSP has learned not to shy away from a punch and is always been the top wrestler / striker combiner in MMA. Can’t say the same for Rory who was scared shitless of Che Mills until he took him to the floor, we haven’t seen a proper wrestler fight him so we’ll see how he faces up if they fight. I want to see if he can beat Koscheck which shouldn’t be all that difficult if he utilizes his jab like GSP did.

  7. cgd says:

Can’t really see how he wants to Embarrass Condit after his last fight against BJ

  8. ya herd says:

i would love to see rory at 185 his frame is big enough

  9. rory needs to relax says:

regarless he is acting becoming w.e hes action very odd…..will he embasrres him? no……why would he get embarrased he should be embarrse for not fighting george…is he afraid to win a title off his so called mentor>>>how can u want to be so great but ur not willing to fight a person to be great…he will never be great until he fights george end of story……at MW.he would be straigh up smacked….weidman…munoz…okami…belfort…silva….lombard all would plant him on his pyscotic ass…

  10. JT says:

Lost a lot of respect for this kid. Very talented but obviously can’t handle defeat. Carlos did what he does best…fight his own fight and be patient. Same thing with Nick Diaz. He didn’t let Diaz get close. Avoiding the skills of your opponent is half the fight. The school of hard knocks can teach some important lessons. I think Rory is in for a few…

  11. rory mcdonald had a farm e i e i ooo says:

I am from canada and am not jumping on the rory wagon, ya he beat up a skinny weak 2 dimensional(boxing and jits) nate diaz, yes he beat up a much smaller out of action bj penn that trains with yes men. Trust me when he faces real stiff competiton like condit, i doubt he will be able to take it. I am putting my money on the natural born killer

  12. Daniel Larusso says:

Rory vs Carlos is a very even fight. However,I’d like Condit to pull this off.I’m getting tired of this geek.He has implemented a lot of new things to his game, but his arrogance ,the lack of humilty in defeat, and the fact that he is overrated makes me wanna see condit beat his ass(who has also added a lot of new techniques, has a better attitude and has defeated more important names )

  13. Scotty B says:

Rory is crazy… just like the the honey badger…

just in case you haven’t seen it.

  14. aries says:

Enough with the cocky this cocky that , why does a cock have to do with fighting there not cock fighters , there ufc fighters , people get over confident and people shut up when they prove it hence bj win , and a loss will always stay in the back of a fighters mind , especially if its A LOSS , the guy wants revenge and he doesn’t give a shit about the his reflection on the fans , go get em rory

  15. MJ says:

^Agreed… If you are cocky in this sport then your in the wrong line of work. Cain, Jones, Silva are all super confident and seem cocky to some. Jose is the only that has stayed away from it.

  16. Chris says:

I hope Condit puts this arragont whelp in his place. Rory comes across as a borderline sociopath and a dreadful role-model for any kids coming through MMA. Prior to the BJ match he said he wanted to kill BJ Penn in the cage, and now he’s talking about wanting to embarrass Carlos in front of his family. He’s a sick freak and he doesn’t embody the true spirit if martial arts (a problem im seeing with many of the new young blood coming through who train solely in MMA from day one and don’t know what it means to be a ‘martial artist’. Much of it has to do with respect, Rory has none)
