EXCLUSIVE (Part 2) | Thiago Silva Discusses his KO of ‘Feijao’, Blackzilians, and What He Wants Next | BJPenn.com Radio

By JAKE CHASTAIN

| Our boys Pedro Carrasco and George Mathews were back in shop on Wednesday (June 12th) for the latest episode of BJPenn.com Radio and they were joined by recent ‘Fight of the Night’ and ‘Knock Out of the Night’ bonus winnerUFC light heavyweight contender Thiago Silva. Silva is fresh off of the heels of a KO of Rafael ‘Feijao’ Cavalcante last Saturday at UFC on FUEL TV 10 in Brazil and the vicious striker was kind enough to stop in and discuss the latest news. Silva talked about his victory over “Feijao’, what he feels is next in his career, and, in lieu of Bigfoot Silva recently calling Thiago out following his win over ‘Feijao’, talked about Antonio’s threats. Here are some of the highlights from that interview:

Thiago talked about how he felt he performed in his KO win over ‘Feijao’, especially now that the victory has had time to sink in. Silva stated, “I feel great, I think I had a good performance. I just listened to my coach, I did everything by the books, and those are the results. It’s a win. A big win. So, yeah, I think I did great.”

Thiago then explained how training in Florida as part of the Blackzilians team has helped improve his game as an overall fighter and and how his team helped him get the win last Saturday at UFC on FUEL TV 10. He explained, “You know, I think if I’m doing better right now, I’m very focused, you know, I’m sharp, it’s because I just moved it, I changed my training…I need to give all the credit to the Blackzilians. It’s not just me. I have a big team behind me, you know? So, yeah, it’s not only my credit.”

Silva was then asked if he had moved to Florida and started training with the Blackzilians sooner, if he thought he might have won some of the close fights he’s lost in the past, like against now-number-one LHW contender Alexander Gustafsson. Silva replied,“Oh yeah, for sure, man. Right now my team is amazing, you know? I feel at home with my family. So yeah, I have everything I need plus more.”

Thiago talked about some of the differences between training with the Blackzilians as opposed to his old gym of American Top Team. He went on about some of the things that the Blackzilians do that have helped improve his skills by explaining, “There’s a big difference. At the Blackzilians we have good professionals, you know? We have a real coach. We have very good guys. They teach you a lot, they try to make you better. And also we have very good teammates, you know? Professional guys, top guys. So I think that’s the difference. First, the coach, and then the fighters because we have high level fighters. So when you train with guys like that, you know, the training is very hard and when you go to the real fight inside the cage you feel much more comfortable. So that’s what I think.”

The conversation continued as Thiago talked about what he thought was next for him following his KO of ‘Feijao’. Silva stated, “I just want to fight.” He continued,“I’m already training. I don’t need a break because I’m healthy. I didn’t get hurt at all so I’m already back to training and I just want to fight the best guys in my division, you know? That’s it. I want to come back to the top. I want to fight for the title, I want to fight in the top ten so I’m already training. If the UFC came tomorrow and said, ‘you’re going to fight on Saturday,’ I’ll be ready.”

Thiago Silva, who trains out of Florida but was born in Brazil, then touched on how amazing of a feeling it was to fight back home in in his old stomping grounds by saying, “It was so good. It felt so good, you know? I think it was the best experience I’ve ever had before. Also, I would love to fight again in Brazil if possible. It’s completely different when you see your people, you know, you speak in your language. So yeah, I’m so happy to fight in Brazil and I would love to fight there again, for sure.”

And on a lighter note the boys in shop, who were broadcasting the show from a tattoo parlor in Orange County, California, asked if Thiago was going to spend any of his bonus earnings on fresh ink. Silva laughed and stated, “I love ink. I want to get a lot more tattoos. So, it would be nice, for sure.”

Then he was asked what he really wanted to spend most of his “Fight of the Night” and “Knock-out of the Night” earnings on. Silva replied, “To be honest with you I just want to buy a nice house, you know, for now. I want to have a big house. A very nice house with a pool and everything, so that’s what I think, you know. I’m not the kind of guy that likes to spend a lot of money with cars and bikes and whatever. I’m more family. I prefer a big house.” He continued, “I don’t care about cars or motorcycles or parties or clothes, you know? I just want to live very good.”

As the conversation came to a close Thiago explained that he loves fighting and wants to be able to provide for his family through his profession. He didn’t care much about excess material things but instead only needed the essentials of a comfortable life. He said, “I want to live with quality, you know? I want to live good.”
