EXCLUSIVE | Journalist Danny Acosta Isn’t A Fan Of Sonnen vs. Jones | Fist-Ta_Cuff Radio

On Sunday February 10, 2013 bjpenn.com’s Fist-ta-cuff radio talked to Danny Acosta, former writer for FIGHT magazine and current sportswriter/journalist.
Acosta was asked about the fact Ricardo Lamas is 4-0 in the UFC and defeated number one contender Erik Koch in his last bout, but was passed over and Anthony Pettis was given the title shot. They asked Acosta also about the way the UFC has been giving title shots to guys who might sell more tickets instead of actually being the number one contender.
Fist-Ta-Cuff: Do you think guys getting title shots based selling tickets and not necessarily being the number one contender is good or bad for the sport?
Acosta – “Uh you know it all depends on the situation, I don’t think that Frankie Edgar fighting for the title was a bad thing, and I don’t think that Nate Diaz fighting for the title was a bad thing, I’m absolutely opposed to Chael Sonnen vs. Jon Jones, both Frankie Edgar and Nate Diaz were top five fighters and they belong in a world class title fight, with Chael Sonnen sure he’s coming off a world class title fight but there is no precedent for him at 205 lbs.”
“I think that for Anthony Pettis it’s the matter of, you look at the evolution of the sport, like we were talking about, Anthony Pettis at 25 years old is one of the most creative martial artist that we’ve seen in the UFC or MMA in general, so I think that you look at Anthony Pettis and he’s latterly Showtime, that’s his nickname but he’s lived up to it, he’s changing the game with his techniques I think that’s a great thing and that’s what sells tickets and if he’s ready for a title fight it’s a great fight for Jose Aldo.”
“I like it, fighting is always subjective and on a case-by-case basis. Is it horrible for Ricardo Lamas, yes Lama’s definitely earned it, he was on the right platform, on FOX. I mean he almost killed Koch with those elbows. Those were some of the most vicious elbows I ever seen in a fight in the UFC history, I think Lamas definitely deserves it but I think a fight with Korean Zombie would definitely create a real true number one contender at 145lbs. Which is why I really have no problem with Anthony Pettis coming down and fighting Jose Aldo.”

who the **** cares what danny acosta has to say?
Zombie is coming off of a surgery layoff, Lamas should get Aldo,Pettis v Zombie, and winners fight winners.
There is nothing wrong with someone stepping up to fight the champion if nobody else is willing to do it. It is a bunch of crap to have to scrap a ufc because nobody wants to fight for the championship. I would rather watch 2 random fighter put up an good fight than watch the no 1 contender and champion put up a boring fight. G
That’s a pretty sensational headline for there not really being much there…
This guy sounded like a hypocritical idiot. Who gives a **** a bout this guy anyway. Anybody can write.
“Chael hasn’t fought at LHW in the UFC, he shouldn’t get a title shot.”
“Pettis has never fought at FW, ever, but that dick is too good so I’m okay with this.”
That’s pretty much what I read.
I think Chaels an undeserving douche too, but in the end I’m actually kind of happy that he’s getting a shot. After all his blab and bullshit we get to watch JBJ absolutely annihilate him. This ****in’ fight is going to be so one-sided Chaels going to want to crawl under a rock.
