Exclusive | Johny Hendricks Predicts UFC 146 | UFC NEWS

UFC 146 is scheduled to take place on May 26, 2012. The headline bout for the card is current UFC Heavyweight Champion Junior Dos Santos versus former champ Frank Mir. Also featured on the card is a superfight between former champ Cain Velasquez and Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva. Additionally, Roy Nelson faces Dave Herman, and Lavar Johnson faces Stefan Struve. The card features heavyweight bouts, and all of them will affect the title picture in some way. Fresh off of his win against Josh Koscheck at UFC on FOX 3, UFC welterweight contender Johny Hendricks weighs in on four of the fights and gives his predictions.
Heavyweight Championship bout: Junior Dos Santos (Champion) vs. Frank Mir (Challenger)
Hendricks on Frank Mir’s keys to victory:
“Mir hits hard, but he’s been known to get knocked out. Get it to the ground as quickly as possible. He’s very good at submissions and he’s known to finish, and sometimes break stuff. If I was him that’s what I would be trying to do. Get it to the ground as quickly as possible and let Junior struggle from the bottom. Let him struggle a little bit to get up. I think that’s what’s going to happen in this fight. In the 4th and 5th round he can afford to keep the fight on its feet”.
Junior Dos Santos’s way to win:
“Throw uppercuts. Junior Dos Santos has a mean uppercut. One thing I do know is if you do fight a wrestler if you have heavy hands throw a couple of uppercuts, making them land and they don’t have to be flush. They start thinking about those and if they start focusing on them the shots won’t come as often and might even stop overall. That’s really what you have to do so they don’t want to shoot on you”.
Hendricks’s Prediction:
“Just going off his track record you have to go with Junior. He’s faced a lot of tough jiu jitsu guys and wrestlers. None of them really tried to take him down because they didn’t really have a chance to. Whenever Dos Santos hits someone it’s with incredible force and it usually puts people out. That’s when I go back to Frank Mir’s takedowns. He might be able to get Junior down, but can he withstand that first blow to get him down. I don’t know if he can”.
Cain Velasquez vs. Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva
Hendricks on Cain:
“Cain Velasquez is training pretty much for the same fight. It’s just that he’s going to watch a little bit more video and things like that to get it done. I think really what he needs to do is what Cormier did. He showed the gameplan on how to beat Bigfoot. If I’m Cain Velasquez I try to mirror what Cormier did as best as I can”.
On Silva:
He has to get on top. Somehow, someway he has to get on top. If he does not get on top it’s going to hurt him. It’s going to be a long night. It won’t be pretty. So, if he can he needs to put Cain on the cage and get him to the mat. One thing I haven’t really seen is what Cain can do from his back. That’s something Silva might be able to exploit or not exploit. He needs to use his size, put him on the cage, and take him down”.
Prediction:
Cain Velasquez.
Dave Herman versus Roy Nelson prediction
“Roy. Roy Nelson. Big country can never be counted of a fight you know what I’m saying. He ate some of Dos Santos’s biggest shots and kept coming. He looked good his last fight. I don’t know if it will go his way if he hasn’t slimmed up some. If he’s in better shape there’s no telling what he can do. I think Roy’s starting to realize that. I think he’s going to start developing even faster as a heavyweight”.
Lavar Johnson Stefan Struve prediction
“I think Lavar. He fought on my card. He didn’t take very long of a break did he. He’s still in fight shape and he’s still in fight mode. He’s going to be able to go in there and do well. I think he’s going to go in there and get it done. He hits harder than most heavyweights Struve has faced, and Stefan has been rocked a couple times. I think Lavar will go in there and knock him out”.

agrred
agreed with all of the predictions
Agreed
agreed. ill also take stipe in his fight
Del Rosario is gonna smash stipe.
Thats who I have except I have struve with the upset!
I wouldn’t even call that an upset. If it goes to the ground Lavar is in a lot of trouble. However, if it stays standing Struve is in trouble. It comes down to who can keep the fight in his world and finish it.
I think the fight has a good chance of going to the ground at least once. Hopefully stuve can capitalize on it. He also has probably been working on his stand up alot since he thought he was fighting mark hunt, who’s hard to take down. Should be a good one. I like struve tho he’s still young. Once he’s gained more experience he’ll be tough
Struve actually has decent standup. The problem is that his way of fighting leaves him open to getting hit(not a good style for a guy with a weak chin). If he tightened that up along with his footwork he can stand. He can’t afford to let Lavar get in on him. The man hits too hard. There’s no telling what he’ll do. We know what Lavar is going to do though. I actually want Lavar to win but we shall see.
he always goes with the better banger with the better chin. good picks.
If you didnt agree with this you need to up your mma knowledge.
That’s not true. I think Herman will beat beat Big Country and all of these fights can go either way except Mir vs. Dos Santos(Dos Santos being the victor of course). Crazy things have happened but I just don’t see it happening here.
Lol up your mma knowledge and watch Lavar’s strikeforce fights. I want lavar to win but I think Struve has it.
100% agreed, but there’s always at least one upset.
100% agreed, but there’s always at least one upset.
Herman 4 the win….
Stop calling fighting “banging” lol rogan ur a Dbag for starting all this shit!!!
lol +1
agree with all but the last one I think Struve wins by submission.. if HD could take johnson down and mount him no problem think of what Struve could do and Johnson didn’t have a full camp to prepare for the ground game Struve brings. I been watching Struve’s interviews he seems confident, kinda too confident so I’m a little worried he’s going to get KOed but if he stays focused he wins by sub take it to the bank
Herman should have kept the beard to help protect his chin against Big Country. Herman seems like a real likeable dude and always comes to fight win or lose. This is going to be a slugfest. I give Big country the advantage (CHIN) and ground game if it goes there. Herman has big height advantage and prob reach and more crisp striking. if Herman can keep this fight standing and fight from outside he will win by decision
Lavar can win by KO def. Im not counting him out of the fight until it is over. He can end it at any moment. That being said, Struve is starting to learn more how to use his reach to an advantage, and his ground game is always improving. I really wouldn’t be surprised if Struve wins by submission. I’m going with Struve by submission. But would I be surprised if Struve got knocked out….not really lol.
hes dead wrong about antonio Silva…if silva puts a good punch on him, cain will be out just like the JDS-Cain fight….If Antonio gets on top..the fight will be OVER
mir
cain
nelson
struve
Another MMA article with NO spell check or editor. What the ****, it’s really not that hard to read your OWN article before publishing it and looking stupid (as usual). There ARE intelligent fans out there who appreciate an article that doesn’t look like it was written by a fifth grader.
silva could fxxx my axx while he’s at it. i aint scared homie.
Right on the money. Go Roy, Big Country all the way!
Were..those..predictions?…lol…
I hope Velasquez wins. Bigfoot is ****in freaky lookin.
