Exclusive| Joey "The Mexicutioner" Beltran Talks 205 Debut Wants Back In UFC

Joey “The Mexcutioner” Beltran faced former Strikeforce heavyweight Lavar Johnson on January 28, 2012 at UFC on Fox:  Evans vs Davis where he lost via KO in the first round. Following the loss, Beltran was released from the promotion.  After being released, Beltran said he will be dropping down to compete in the light heavyweight division division.  He officially made his light heavyweight debut on April 28, 2012 at C3 Fights in Oklhaoma, where he defeated Anton Talamante via unanimous decision.

Host Jens Pulver asked about his mental state after getting cut from the UFC wondering if Beltran questioned his career or was he confident on a comeback & determined to fight harder.

Beltran talked about his depression.  His soul searching led him to comeback and fight again.  This time around Beltran dropped a weight class.

“I have a goal.  I have a perfect world scenario in my brain.  If I could get three wins this summer and somehow, somehow by the grace of the Lord get a late notice call to fight on this sports card in Los Angeles UFC FX4 then that would be pretty cool.  Of course I have it in my brain I’m gonna keep fighting, keep winning until I get the call.”

Co-host Able asked what was the biggest difference between lightheavy and heavy

“The biggest difference is that he didn’t stop.  He didn’t stop moving the whole fight.  Even though I was tagging em, tagging em, tagging em, kicking em in the head a couple times, elbowed him – I must have elbowed him in the face about fifteen times, kneed him in the head a multiple times and he just kept moving, kept moving, kept moving the gas tank and the pace is something definitely different and while I was able to perform at that level and I was happy with my performance thinking about it after I definitely know now that there’s a whole nother level of conditioning that I can reach with my newer, lighter body so that’s why I went right back at it.  Went right back to the gym not keeping any time off and on to the next one as they say.”

Joey Beltran is waiting in the wings for his next call to action in the cage.

  1. Xaninho says:

I would like to see him back, he was too small for the HW’s. I think he can do some good stuff at 205.

  2. Beltran is a slugger with a ton of heart but imo he’s not a mixed martial artist.

    • Keyboard hater says:

Luckily no one cares about your opinion slapper! Bet you have never even seen the inside of a cage!!!!!!

      • Sergio says:

Have you? Tell about your experience, what’s your mma record? Where can I see your last fight? U must have recorded it? I’d love to see it,

  3. John says:

Not sure why he was cut. He may not be a contender but the fans love to watch him fight

  4. Monkey juice says:

He’s a good tomato can. Fun watching him get speed bagged. god love him….

  5. Brend0magic says:

Hopefully the weight cut doesn’t affect his chin, I know some people say it does. I’ve never dropped a weight class in boxing so I have no idea personally. I would like to see him back, some cardio and maybe some new ground skillz, he could be pretty good. And if his chin stays as good, I don’t see anyone at LHW ko’ing him besides Hendo.
