EXCLUSIVE | Jim Miller Wants To Push Maynard Down The Ranks | UFC NEWS
Most fighters will openly admit that they want to seek revenge on those they have lost to at some point in their careers. Some want to fight the man who defeated in their very next fight, they don’t see the need to wait around or have any desire to take on anyone else in the meantime. Jim Miller has lost to four men, Frankie Edgar, Gray Maynard, Benson Henderson and Nate Diaz. There’s nothing to be ashamed of losing to a former UFC Lightweight Champion, the current lightweight King and two former number one contenders.
Right now, Miller is concentrating on healing up from the all-out war he had with Joe Lauzon at UFC 155 this past December and on his upcoming fight with Strikeforce import Pat Healy at UFC 159. After that’s all said and done he’d certainly welcome the opportunity to face the first man to defeat him inside the Octagon.
Miller has spoken openly of his desire to face Maynard again and avenge his 2nd professional loss. Back-to-back wins over Lauzon and Healy could put him in line to face “The Bully” once again. As much as he’d welcome the chance to seek retribution, he’s not about to wait around for it to happen.
“I don’t know what his timeline looks like coming back from his injury and who they’re going to place him against,” explained Miller. “I don’t like sitting around waiting, it’s one of those situations where we’re kind of out of timing for each other. We’ll see how it goes, but I’d rather fight again as opposed to waiting months for him to come back. It’s definitely a fight that I want, he’s a top contender and his only loss is to Frankie. No one has pushed him out of that contender’s spot, there’s only guys coming in and squeaking by him. You really can’t put anybody above him, Pettis is only 3-1 in the UFC. He does have a win over Ben and looked impressive in his last two wins, but he hasn’t really done anything to get in front of Gray in my opinion. I feel the same, I have to get by him, somebody has to beat him and I would like the opportunity.”
So will we see Miller-Maynard II if he can get by Healy and the timing is right? It certainly makes sense, Maynard was originally scheduled to face Lauzon, but was injured and Miller jumped in with no hesitation. He and Lauzon proceeded to tear down the roof of the MGM Grand Garden Arena. A win for either man would certainly put them in line for a title shot or at the very least a number one contenders bout.
