The UFC announcing its strawweight division
“I think it’s great what the UFC is doing. In every interview that I’ve done I’ve said that this was going to happen. There is enough for everybody. I’m really happy with what’s going on in the MMA sport. I’m so happy that they’re creating jobs and businesses are growing and the girls have a huge opportunity to show their skills.”
“I think it was in ’08 that I met Dana White and I met him in New York and it was at a Gold’s Gym because I was competing in one of the big grappling competitions. We were cutting weight to compete, a bunch of us from American Top Team. I went up to say hi to him and I had my business card and I think I had maybe four to five professional fights at the time. I told him one day I will be holding your UFC belt and he looked at me and he laughed at me and he took the card and said, ‘OK. We’ll see what happens.’”
A new chapter in the WSOF
“I’m grateful and exciting to start my dream (at the WSOF). Right now the WSOF has given me the opportunity and has given me the belief to fight for them and I’m going to value their contract. That’s my home, the WSOF. I’m making history already. I’m their queen. It means a lot to me for them to believe in me.”
Being No. 1
“I’m going to remain No. 1 in the world. I’m going to be No. 1 in the WSOF and then I’m going to come and be No. 1 in the UFC. I’m happy to say that I’m the first woman, No. 1 in the world, to sign with the WSOF and I will remain No. 1. I’m just riding it. I’m so happy. This is my time. I’m going to enjoy the journey.”
Opportunities outside the cage
“It’s an hour and a blessing that I’m where I am today. The platform that my sport, my passion has given me to tell my story and inspire people and to be a part of foundations and charities that raises money to help people around the world, that’s the best feeling ever.”
“It’s going early 2014. That’s all I know right now. I can’t wait for that. Stay tuned.”
What’s for dinner?
“I’m in South Florida and I’m at Keese’s right now. It’s like all-American food but it’s very delicious and I’m treating myself to a nice dinner with the love of my life. I’m just relaxing, being happy, and eating good food. I’m getting ready for training tomorrow. I’ll be in the gym tomorrow morning.”
