Exclusive | BJ Penn Transcript Part 5 | "I Will Be The Aggressor" Against Rory | UFC NEWS

BJ Penn’s 22 year old challenger, Rory McDonald‘s cardio hasn’t been tested.   A lot is on the line for the young MacDonald.   Episode 8 of Just Scrap Radio BJ Penn tells the Pulver Brothers he definitely wants to be the aggressor at the upcoming UFC 152.

Abel Pulver:  “Wouldn’t that to be just as much to worry about in the MacDonald camp?  He’s only been the distance one time and that was against 155lbs Nate Diaz – not to say Nate’s a push over of any kind but he seemed to fade also in the fight with Condit.  The guy has 5 TKO’s and 7 subs in 13 victories and the one over Nate so really when you think about it – What does anybody know about his cardio?”

BJ Penn:

“You’re right, you’re right.  We don’t know about his cardio, his experience.  I believe your body like anything else can put limitation on speed or power or whatever it maybe.  I believe some people’s bodies, your cardio goes up to a certain point but you got your own strengths and weaknesses.   Over the years I honestly believe training for so long and fighting for so long when I was in my 20’s living more of a carefree lifestyle – all that stuff wears you down over awhile. I definitely had adrenal fatigue.  I definitely know that I’ve had issues like that with my adrenaline and different stuff.  Everybody knows I’m all natural.  I just got to wait and sit around to let my body and organs get back into balance and sync or whatever you want to call it.

As far as that goes with him [Rory] that’s true.  He’s still untested.  I think everything they are saying is true.  He’s very good.  I think he comes from a very good team.    He’s got a lot of very good people.  They are going to have him ready.  They are going to have him prepared but yes – like you said this is going to be a big fight this isn’t a small fight so there is going to be a lot on the line.  All those different stressers and all those different things is definitely going to play into the cardiovascular system.”

Jens Pulver:  Knowing who you’re going to fight what kind of style are you going to bring into the octagon for this fight?  Are you going to be the guy that sits back and goes – hey I’m going to fight stand up until he tries to take me down or I’m going to take my pile ass back and take him down?  Are you going to be more of the aggressor and shut him down quick and feed of the fact that he is young and try to derail the momentum instantly?  Are you going to work on his psyche by shutting him down, stepping forward and crushing him or are you going to be the guy that wants to sit back – counter punch him a little bit when he shoots – I’m going to look to counterpunch him there.  What are you looking at as far as an offensive, defensive strategy?  Fighting a younger guy giving him a lot of hype up there – what is it that you want to do when you go in there and fight him?

BJ Penn:

“Without giving away too much, I definitely want to be the aggressor…. Rory’s style is more of a St. Pierre type of game.  Someone asked the other day ‘they call you the prodigy – they call him the prodigy – is he similar to you?’  I would say no he’s more like a bulldozer.  I was more like a snake.’

With that said, he’s got that great outside single just like George, Faraz really has him relaxed on his punches.  That’s dangerous for opponents – when the guy settles in and he’s really relaxed, not trying to hit the mitts too hard not trying to hit his opponents too hard because you know you’re gonna miss. You’re just trying to place the punches there.  Every time I see him training Faraz, I think, he’s training him right.  Teaching him to keep his eyes open and put the punches where they need to be.   I’ve got a lot of respect for that.  I know the skill and the danger that comes behind someone who punches relaxed and doesn’t get all tensed up and wound up.  He’s got a good team, a good camp behind him.   I don’t want to give up too much but the word aggressor is the right word when I step into the cage of that night.”

  1. WrestlingRules says:

BJ by annihilation r1………..besides how good can a guy with a name like Rory be?? It sounds like a girls name, No??

  2. e says:

set the pace! make rory face your game, your strengths. light um up take him down and pound um out or choke um out!

    • WrestlingRules says:

Yup all in r1…I can see every move you just laid out in my head. Then He is a Condit or Kampmann away from GSP if one of these guys happens to beat him. I think it will be Kampmann if anybody.

Let’s not forget he was beating everyone of these guys he lost to in the early rounds,

      • Nuitari X says:

uhhhhh….Rory might be a funny name bro but he’s a beast. You should go watch some of his fights. I love Bj Penn but unfortunately I don’t see him winning this one. Rory truly is the new breed of mma. He didn’t just grow up with a wrestling base or jiu-jitsu base or striking base. When he started training he started training MMA. That’s the difference between the older and newer generation of fighters now. They can do it all from the beginning.

        • WrestlingRules says:

I’ve watched him fight. The only 2 tough fights he had were with Condit who tko’ed him and Diaz who he couldn’t finish!!! You don’t think BJ could beat Condit or Nate???? Rory has no magical training. btw” WTF is mma trainiing??? And Rory is a girl’s name….It actually sounds like a stripper’s name…

        • Nuitari X says:

By mma training i mean that he started training all aspects at once. Instead of coming from just one base or another.

  3. Jp says:

Rory is way to big and strong for BJ i have to say im pretty sure penn is going to get destroyed

    • WrestlingRules says:

Rory the stripper won’t beat BJ. He couldn’t beat Condit and couldn’t beat Nate. BJ could beat these two guys fighting in the same match?? Rory will need to go back to the drawing board once BJ KO’s or chokes him out.

      • Thom says:

What do u mean he couldn’t beat Nate? And he wouldve won a UD if the ref didnt stop the fight for no reason… Rory’s legit, BJ knows this too. War BJ!

        • WrestlingRules says:

Never said Rory wasn’t legit, just that BJ’s much better. Your logic that if the judges would not have stopped Rory from getting dain bramage by Condit he would of won, is like saying, that if bitch-ass Silva didn’t get lucky with an armbar/choke on Sonnen then Sonnen would of UD, 5rounds….You logic is a fallacy.

I did say that Rory, the name, sounds like a stripper’s name and I will stick to that until you can provide a better argument that it doesn’t…well can you?

And if I may, I’ve always wanted to ask someone that uses Thom for their name, why they spell it with the “h” and why drop the “as”? Thx..

        • GRT 3000 says:

bitch please. keep saying fallacy like your some Oxford scholar. ‘Your logic is fallacy.’ LOL… fuckin’ Spock – time to drill a hole on your planet & blow it up.

& wrestling is for fags. your hero Sonnen in a (17:1) cheat scam artist that has WWE ass clowns like you (& an army of douchebags) lining up for second and third helpings of bullshit.

      • Majestyk says:

Don’t put BJ in the same category as Condit. Carlos Condit is on another level….faster hands, much more unpredictable striker, better head movement, better footwork and of course MUCH better cardio. Just like BJ has zero chance of ever beating Edgar (and Henderson) at Lightweight, he has zero chance of beating Condit or Rory. The only person who could beat guys guys of that caliber is GSP, assuming that he returns @100%.
I wish that BJ had stayed retired. I don’t want to see BJ continue to tarnish his legacy, but that’s exactly what’s going to happen when Rory humiliates him.

  4. WrestlingRules says:

    Ooops I meant he couldn’t finish Nate…sorry…

  5. Ben says:

A in shape bj will smash anyone in ww and lw.

  6. Mircfsc says:

He was the agressor against fitch..GASSED. Aggressor against Diaz..GASSED. I’ll be rooting for BJ, but I hope he doesn’t “overtrain” and really focuses on his cardio.

    • WrestlingRules says:

BJ will finish this kid. He isn’t as good as BJ. The weight thing is only a mental issue. I constantly plant and beat up guys 50 lbs ( that would be about 20kgs for you poor people not lucky enough to be Americans…well life is good, just not FAIR) heavier than me. It has to do if they are BETTER than me NOT weight.. Same with BJ and he is MUCH better than Rory. So for all you bitches who are cryin; about BJ being too small, what you are really saying is that you THINK BJ is NOT as good as Rory…OK? So get it straight.

  7. thereader says:

I’d say BJ needs to treat this as a super fight. You loose a super bowl without a great game plan and coach. I’ve never heard BJ explain any of his game plans. I’m not sure why, but “get him” is not really intelligent advice from a corner.

  8. Rob says:

I don’t really think size is a big issue, to be honest. Perfect examples here are the Velasquez/Lesnar fights and the Mir/Carwin fights. Brock came into that fight weighing more than 265, lets say 280. Cain weighed like 245-250? Cain dominated him. Mir put on like 30lbs of muscle to compete with the bigger heavyweight fighters and along with Carwin, came into the fight probably weighing around 280. Carwin destroyed Mir. The big issue here is technique. Cain had better technique than Brock and the obvious advantage of nit being as heavy, and win. Getting up from the takedown, going on to take Brock down etc. Mir couldn’t get off the cage, simple as that. Technique always beats strength/size. If BJ comes into this fight with a great camp, the killer technique that we all know he has, and a good game plan, Rory is history. It won’t matter if BJ comes in at 155.and fought Rory when her weighted 180, his technique will prevail if he has it.

But this is just my opinion folks, take it however you want it.

  9. justin says:

bj,im a huge huge fan but this kid will make you sure about retirement
