Erik Koch Likely Candidate For Next Featherweight Title Shot | UFC NEWS

By Jamie McAllister:
Jose Aldo’s next opponent could be Erik Koch.

Koch is likely to be named the opponent for Aldo’s next title defence whenever the UFC decides on a date for the Featherweight champion to defend his title.

Sources close to both fighters confirm that Koch is the likely candidate to get the shot at Aldo, however bout agreements have not been issued for the 145-pound title fight showdown.

The main reason for this is the date has yet to be set. UFC 149 was expected be Aldo’s return, however with the loss of the main event at UFC 147 in Brazil UFC officials are keen to bring Aldo back to his homeland to fight.

Another reason Koch may have been selected for the bout is that all of the divisions other top contenders have been locked up, Dustin Poirier vs. Chan Sung Jung, Hatsu Hioki vs. Ricardo Lamas.

If all goes to plan Aldo will face Erik Koch who currently is on a four fight win streak since his decision loss to previous number one contender, Chad Mendes.

Koch (13-1) (2-0) in the UFC is one man who wont be afraid to stand with Aldo possessing knockout power in hands and legs alike, Koch also has a number of submission finishes in his career.

Hopefully an official announcement of a date and conformation that Koch is indeed going to be the challenger will be released sooner than later by the UFC.

I HOPE THIS FIGHT GOES DOWN. KOCH IS A SOLID FIGHTER & I BELIEVE HE WILL BRING IT TO ALDO. THIS WILL BE A STAND UP WAR IF IT GOES DOWN. ALDO ALL THE WAY THO….

  3. Dick Diaz says:

really nobody else as Hioki turned down his title shot and Dustin/KoreanZombie are set to battle, which the winner of that and Aldo won’t be on relevant timing… his record justifies a title shot despite his loss to Chad Mendes.

  4. Kalez says:

The only person with a shot at Aldo is if Cerrone drops down to 145. He has a chin and can trade punches with Aldo. That would be a great fight.

  5. Nick says:

Yeah that’s basically a KO for Aldo. It probably won’t even be a main event.
