Ellenberger Not Content To Sit Out For Title Shot | UFC NEWS

As he tells it to ESPN, top welterweight contender Jake Ellenberger does not want to sit out and wait for an eventual title shot if deemed the divisions next contender to the title with a win over Martin Kampmann tonight on FX.
Smart move or are title shots too valuable to risk?

I say strip Condit of his fake belt and put him behind people who actually want to fight.
Let tonight’s winner fight Hendricks for #1 contender, hopefully by the GSP can fight.
IF Condit actually wants to FIGHT anyone or get a title shot, let him earn it. He got a fake belt by running away from Nick Diaz and he won’t defend it. What a load of crap. Send him to the back of the line.
He’s going to get smoked by GSP anyway, DHK took him down in like 10 seconds, he won’t even get a punch off on GSP he’ll spend 25 minutes on his back and lose 50-45, that fight is pointless anyway.

Everywhere I look it seems like people are sleeping on Kampann. Inside MMA barely even talked about him and almost assumed it was a foregone conclusion that Ellenberger was going to win and saying Ellenberger vs Hendricks for #1 contender while Condit strokes his fake belt….
Kampmann is the most under rated fighter in the UFC. in my opinion the dude is 8-1 at welterweight with a win over the “Interim champ” (who won’t fight anyone)
He kicked the shit out of Diego. Let’s be real. Diego looked like a victim of violent crime after that fight. and Shields? all Jake did was hug Martin, he did nothing else.

I think Kampmann has got this. I think he has way better striking and if Diego can mount Ellenberger, Kampmann may be able to submit him, should the fight go there.

I’m very confused by the UFCs thought process. They want to make money off these title fights(obviously). So why do they keep the contender sitting out for 6 months at a time? By the time the fight happens, their last win is hardly relevant and more importantly not remembered by a casual fan. Fighters need to keep busy to maintain a fanbase. Not to mention, if you think you can beat the champ, you outta have the confidence to beat anyone. Champions don’t choose their opponents, oppenents choose you.
Yeah I don’t consider condit a champion at all! He’s got talent, I’ll give him that. But his last performance pretty much sums up his character as a fighter; he doesn’t have heart, he’s doesn’t believe in himself and he’s not a warrior. The ww division is stacked with talent, plenty of contenders but I guess “the natural born killer” doesn’t want that position taken away. Oh well, in the end he will have what’s coming.
Just sad to see two belts in the same division put on hold.
