Frankie Edgar vs. Jose Aldo Set For UFC 153 With Koch Out Injured | UFC News

Former UFC Lightweight Champion Frankie Edgar will be receiving an immediate Featherweight title shot after all.
Edgar has stepped in to replace the injured Erik Koch and face current Featherweight title holder Jose Aldo at UFC 153. The news comes via USA Today.
Edgar (14-3-1) is currently on a two fight losing streak firstly losing his UFC Lightweight Title to Ben Henderson at UFC 144 in Japan via a unanimous decicion and then losing in the rematch at UFC 150 via a split-decision. UFC President Dana White recently announced with the news Edgar was making the drop to 145-pounds that the former champion would have to get at least one win at Featherweight before receiving a title shot however the injury to Koch has changed things.
UFC Featherweight Champion Jose Aldo (21-1) is currently on a fourteen fight winning streak. Aldo has previously commented on Edgar dropping to 145 stating he would be happy to welcome the former champion to his division so he can send him back to lightweight or bantamweight.

Frankie Edgar has one of the biggest hearts in mma, beating the prodigy is no easy task but unfortunately Jose Aldo is just too good. Edgar was too quik for most lightweights but here at 145 there are younger and quicker cats. Jose Aldo will be able to neutralize Frankie’s speed and will be able to take advantage of a significant edge in striking plus Aldo also has top level BJJ, so even with the heart of a champion, i don’t see Edgar winning this fight, but this is mma and upsets do happen.

To me this is the second biggest fight of the year after Anderson vs Sonnen.
Frankie Edgar is in a whole lot of trouble, facing IMO the 3rd best p4p fighter in the world today. Aldo will give Edgar’s legs severe punishment, maybe he will go for the low leg kicks like Bendo did in the first two rounds against Edgar in their second fight.
When Aldo is finished with Edgar he needs to fight the Korean Zombie and then move up to 155 and destroy fighters like Nate Diaz and Bendo.

Totally agree this is the 2nd biggest fight this year. To be honest it could even be the biggest fight Frankie should be the LW champ he clearly beat Bendo, Jose is on a tear killing everyone. Its a champion vs champion match! But it won’t get the hype that Sonnen/Silva got as no one is better at promoting a fight then Sonnen. The UFC 153 card is a great card. Cannot wait!
Aldo could be the best p4p fighter in the world but frankie is by far the best he has fought. Frankie may have lost a couple but they were razor thin. This is going to be a huge match up. It’s the only challenge out there for aldo unless he moves to lw. What a fight!

This is gonna be one sided, edgars good at out pointing bigger guys at 155. He is so screwed at this weight, against this murderer….heart is cool to have but when all its doing is allowing you to stay in a fight longer to get more of your ass kicked, then heart becomes not such a good thin..like having a good chin, if you can’t hit the other guy then what’s the benefit of having a cement head, just taking unecessary damage. Aldo will chop out his legs, edgar will be flat footed after half way through the second, then get finished no later then end of 3rd. Boring fight unless u hate edgar or like aldo….and I don’t really like either so damn, on my bday too, maybe ufc will send me bday hooker to make up for all the times they have left me w my dick in my hand lately.

There are other contenders in Featherweight who deserve the shot more than Frankie ‘the Rematch’ Edgar. He refused to fight Aldo and opted for a rematch against Bendo, he lost so he needs to earn the damn shot at Aldo’s belt. Why not let the #2 featherweight contender take Koch’s place?

Should be super – close. If Hominick could push Aldo in the late rounds, then Edgar has a great shot at winning this. Wrestling smaller guys will give an advantage to Edgar, but like Ben, Aldo has killer leg kicks. Boxing should be pretty even. I think hand – speed is the same. I’ll take Edgar because I think his superior cardio will win him the championship rounds.

Zombie is also recovering from a surgery. Chad mendes just got ko’d by aldo. Any way you slice it this is the fight to have. Hell be Aldo’s toughest to date. Not to mention he hasn’t faced a class of opponents that Edgar has. Wins over guys like Tyson griffen, hermes franka, sherk, Jim miller, Maynard, Bj Ect. This dudes a stud I think he’ll win and it will shake the division up and create some great new matchups.
