Edgar Says Taking On Aldo Fight Was 'An Easy Call' | UFC NEWS

“This is a great opportunity I’m handed here. It’s something that I didn’t think would happen this quick. It was an easy call on my part. I had fought less than three weeks ago when I got the call. I had an injury-free fight. I felt really good. I was already back in the gym a little bit. It’s an opportunity you can’t let slip… I’ve always been a fan of Jose Aldo. He’s an exciting fighter to watch. He brings it every fight. One of the best strikers we’ve got in the UFC. I’m pumped for this fight. He’s such a dynamic striker. He can get you with his hands, his feet. He can kind of do it all as far as his stand-up goes. He’s got a really good ground game that no one has really seen before. He’s gonna be a tough opponent, no doubt.”
Former UFC lightweight champion Frankie Edgar tells mmaweekly.com that it was an easy call to take the fight against Jose Aldo at UFC 153. “The Answer” will now risk dropping three-straight fights should Aldo get the better of him but does anyone see that happening?

doesn’t matter if he wins or losses. he is fighting the best in the world.
the press needs to quit putting more pressure on fighters records, and instead, more emphasis on fighter performances.
the Japanese had it right in the pride days. it didn’t matter if a fighter won or lost. if they performed to the best of their abilities, they had the respect of the masses.
fighters don’t need the additional pressure to win to keep their job. of course, all competitors want to win, but winning isn’t everything. judges make bad decisions. refs make bad calls and stoppages. sometimes promoters make bad match ups. sometimes coaches create bad game plans (lay and pray, hit and run, etc.).
+1 Could not agree more.
If you win it’s not a bad game plan. it’s should be about fighting not entertaining. This isn’t the WWE. However there will always be some styles that are more exciting. Aldo and Edgar both have those styles.
I still like Aldo in this fight. Way to step up and fight though FE. Should be a great fight. There is someone in the 205 division that could use Frankie as a role model…
Actually, Edgar learned from Sonnen.
That 205 champ needs to learn from Aldo (motorcycle accident and still truckin).
Cant teach heart, way to step up Frankie edgar
Frankie def has a shot. I was never really a fan of his till that last fight with Benson. That was a war.
I can only hope Aldo finishes it before the end of the 5th. If it goes the distance Edgar will cry for a rematch again.
Cry for a rematch? Dude you need to take that **** out of your ass. Franky deserved that rematch unlike BJ penn.
You know, you could reply with a few facts or valuable points. But instead of acting like an adult you choose to act like your mental age and that’s probably around what, 12?
Xaninho’s right, and BJ definitely deserved a rematch. This guy barely scrapes through matches and expects to win by decision. If hes tired of losing fights then finish them. Good on him for taking the Aldo fight but he better no rely on the judges again.
And that’s why Frankie’s one of my favs!… take note JBJ!
Go frankie!!!!
just for politics, the one thing that sucks is that Edgar doesn’t have the belt (i thought he lost the first one decisively and won the third fight) because then and only then would this be a “true” super fight… =(
Aldo will knock him out.
Rip Frankie’s legs
@ jon, frankie lost the 1st fight with bj penn so take that shit out ya ass, let me guess? The jersey shore is your favorite show? And since its been off air you dont know wat to do with yourself so you became a frankie fan?!! You acting like half a meat ball!! Haha
cant wait for this fight, should do mark hominick vs korean zombie rematch for no1 contender
Not an Edgar fan but, he sure did get my full respect on his decision to drop weight and take on Aldo. True heart of a competitor and a Champion.
Aldo has never faced an elite fighter like Edgar. Edgar has been fighting the best fighters in the most stacked division in the UFC. Edgar is going to rag doll Aldo.
Please stop.
Edgar could hold the bantamweight belt too if he wanted.
I’m a huge Aldo fan but Frankies fights speak
to me. My job beats me up everyday but I
keep coming. Frankie is the American spirit
that has overcome true battles. I’m sorry Jose
but I’d like to see Frankie bust the door open
and be embraced by your country like we do
so many Brazilian fighters. I’ve got Frankie
It doesn’t make much sence to even put
them against each other considering Joses
just as big as the fighters Frankie would be
fighting at 55 or maybe that’s just Dana forcing
a move for Jose as well
