Eddie Alvarez Out Of Bellator Title Fight With Michael Chandler

And the ever so common injury bug has struck the Bellator promotion. This time it’s, Bellator lightweight champion, Eddie Alvarez who is forced out of his scheduled October 15 bout with season 5 lightweight winner Michael Chandler.
“Eddie suffered an injury that will keep him out of our October 15th show at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City,” said Bellator Chairman & CEO Bjorn Rebney. “Eddie Alvarez has a huge heart and if there was any way for him to fight on the 15th, I know he would. Ed’s in spectacular condition, so both of us are hopeful that this fight can potentially still occur later this fall.”
Alvarez was set to return to action on October 15 in an attempt to defend his title against season 4 winner, Michael Chandler in New Jersey. There has been no time line given for his recovery.
Other bouts on the card are still intact including semifinal action in the season 5 middleweight tournament and a non-title affair between bantamweight champion Zach Machovsky and Ryan Roberts.
