Dustin Poirier Sets Two New Records In Featherweight Division
Dustin “Diamond” Poirier set the record for featherweight wins (with 8) at the TUF Nations Finale, this past Wednesday night, winning an entertaining scrap with Akira Corassani. By stopping Akira to take home that record-breaking win, he has also set the record for most stoppages in featherweight history (5).
Poirier found himself in some serious trouble in round one, when Akira cracked him with a hard left hand, dropping “Diamond” to the ground. Akira didn’t seem to commit fully to taking Poirier out when he had him hurt however, and Poirier was able to find his footing, re-engaging Akira and almost ending up with a slick Peruvian necktie, before Akira was able to shake him off and land a brutal knee before the end of the intense first round.
Poirier would come out for round two with a purpose, slamming an uppercut into Akira’s face, breaking his nose, and ending the fight with multiple body shots that were all but academic at that point.
In case you missed the fight, here’s a link to the .gif of the nasty uppercut and follow-up punches, which sealed the deal for “Diamond”.
