MMA NEWS – DREAM New Year 2011 Results: Emelianenko & Aoki End The Year Victorious

“DREAM: Fight for Japan. How are you! New Year 2011.” took place early this morning from the Saitama Super Arena in Saitama, Japan. In the headlining slot is heavyweight Fedor Emelianenko was able to defeat, Judo Olympic gold medalist, Satoshi Ishii in the first round.
In the co-featured slot Shinya Aoki defended his lightweight title against Satoru Kitaoka via a very entertaining unanimous decision.
To culminate the DREAM Bantamweight tournament Bibiano Fernandes fought and defeated Antonio Banuelos in his second bout of the night to win the DREAM world grand prix.

Champ Shinya Aoki vs. Satoru Kitaoka via unanimous decision – retains lightweight title

Bibiano Fernandes def. Antonio Banuelos via TKO (strikes) – Round 1, 1:21 – to win world bantamweight grand prix and title
Megumi Fujii def. Karla Benitez via submission (armbar) – Round 1, 1:15
Tatsuya Kawajiri def. Kazuyuki Miyata via submission (arm-triangle choke) – Round 2, 4:54
Ryo Chonan def. Hayato “Mach” Sakurai via unanimous decision
Bibiano Fernandes def. Rodolfo Marques Diniz via unanimous decision – bantamweight grand-prix semifinal
Antonio Banuelos def. Masakazu Imanari via split decision – bantamweight grand-prix semifinal
Yusup Saadulaev def. Hideo Tokoro via KO (slam) – Round 1, 0:42 – bantamweight grand-prix reserve match

Fedor looked very tentative at first but once he worked out Ishii couldn’t hurt him, he started to let his hands go, there’s no question he can dish out a beating he’s just not so good at taking one anymore… I’m pretty sure he rocked Henderson early in their fight before losing…..
