Dos Santos Wants Overeem Next 'I Want To Knock Him Out And I Want To Knock Him Out Now.' | UFC News

By Jamie McAllister
Lorenzo Fertitta confirmed that UFC Heavyweight Champion Junior Dos Santos will headline the fight card planned for Dec. 29, 2012, in Las Vegas, Nevada.  However is opponent is still not confirmed Cain Velasquez spoke out earlier this week asking what the hold up was with the title shot.

UFC President Dana White broke down the situation in the media scrum following the UFC On FOX 4 Post-Fight Press Conference. White stated that the UFC Heavyweight Champion wants Alistair Overeem next.

“I sat down with Junior dos Santos yesterday, the nicest guy in the world, right? Seriously, you’ve all talked to him, he’s the nicest guy in the world. He said, ‘I have nothing but respect for Cain Velasquez, as a person and as a fighter, and I think he deserves the shot at the title, but I do not want to fight him,’ which is not what he said a month ago. He said, ‘Alistair Overeem is a punk, he’s got a big mouth, he’s been saying lots of bad things about me, and I want to knock him out and I want to knock him out now.’ And I said, ‘Junior, I like that. Alright.'”

White went on to say that this does not necessarily mean that the bout will be booked. However he confirmed he would seriously consider Dos Santos request as he “is a guy who’s done everything we’ve ever asked of him, and he’s never asked anything of us.”

“He’s my heavyweight champion. He’s one of those guys who, like Frankie Edgar, is a guy who’s done everything we’ve ever asked of him, and he’s never asked anything of us, so when a guy like him comes to me and wants something, yeah, I have to consider it. I don’t know, he wants the fight. I’m not saying that’s what’s happening, I’m just saying to you that that’s what he’s saying. He’s saying that he wants this fight, [dos Santos’ management was] blowing me up saying they wanted to meet with me, we went to lunch yesterday and he just went off on what a punk he thinks Alistair Overeem is and how bad he wants to knock him out.”

Oh man, I can’t imagine a pissed of Dos Santos, RIP Overeem.

    • Majestyk says:

Being angry doesn’t improve someone’s chances of winning. If anything, just the opposite. That said, assuming that Dos Santos is not being misquoted, I agree with his opinion of Overeem.

      • Jiu-JitsuRules says:

When a boxer gets mad it increases a chance of a knockout by 100%

      • Bob says:

Being angry doesnt improve someones chances of winning?? You are wrong to a certain degree.. Being angry motivates a person more than being a happy.. I knocked out a ton of ppl of anger so what you are saying applies to you only

        • Pijan says:

Actually when your angry, or make any irrational decision due to emotion, your chances of winning go down. In a sport like this, where there is no room for error, getting too angry can and will cost you. Whether your talking in the ring or out of it I highly doubt you’ve faced anyone the caliber of Overeem of JDS. Now, with that said, Anger, if used correctly, can be an amazing thing. As long as you control it and you don’t allow it to control you. Emotions are a bad thing, specially in any sort of combat.

  2. Hiiipower716 says:

The Reem fuckd up now lol

  3. Thurgood Jenkins says:

It’s not only what Dos Santos wants. It’s also the fight the FANS want to see. Ya know, Dana, the ones who have made you rich beyond your wildest dreams. The ones who drop $60 a PPV to see great fights. The ones that still stick around despite the string of recent overhyped, lackluster fights. Without us, there is no UFC. If you don’t put your ear to the ground, you’ll never hear the buffalo coming.

    • Pelican says:

But personally, i would like to see a Velasquez rematch too. I was bummed out when Alistair got suspended and they brought in Mir. It didn’t even look like Mir tried in that fight, and Cain has earned his shot. Sure, Alistair is on a tear, but he beat a Brock Lesnar that didn’t want to be in there anyway. I think they should give the shot to Cain first. Then Overeem.

  4. thurgood couldnt of said it better myself, sad the fights for free on fox where better then the last 5 ppv’s. Witch sucks for new fans getting all excited for the free ones and then buy the $60PPV. kinda like see Adam Sadler movie previews, then wasting your money on the real thing at the theater.

  5. Black Jesus says:

Overroid ran his mouth to to get an undeserving main event, title fight payday. Meanwhile Cain Velasquez gets jacked off on by the UFC brass.

  6. Mike says:

  7. 757 says:

No respect for Overeem anymore. Always been a Junior fan. He will kick Overeems ass. I would love to see it to. Hat’s off to a clean champion…go Junior

  8. kenshiro says:

Be careful what you wish for JDS… be real careful!
I’m a big JDS fan and supporter but The Reem will
demolish him. I respect JDS for asking for that fight
but this is gonna end bad for him.

I believe JDS realizes the fight with The Reem is a
much bigger pay day (especially his PPV check) and
that’s his main motivation to want to go this route.
He wants to make sure that fight HAPPENS and he
gets that check cause he’s not sure if he’ll be champ
after a rematch with that BEAST called CAIN. I’m not
saying he’s scared! I’m just saying he realizes that it’s
a 50/50 chance that CAIN will take him out. Meaning
the “BIG” fight, with Overeem wouldn’t happen anytime
soon and “IF” it does, probably not a championship fight.
So moneywise, waiting for THE REEM is smart! for his health

    • Tapitout21 says:

You’re an idiot. JDS has a great chance against reem and will probably come in as the a slight favorite on the betting lines. Reem will get every drug test known to man leading up to and after this fight. Let’s not forget reem was actually out struck by werdum in their last meeting. JDS takes this late 2nd early 3rd after reem gasses

      • Kenshiro says:

JDS is getting knocked the fuck out….i put 10 houses on that. You keep on dreaming and suck JDS anus. JDS is for real, no doubt about that but he aint beating The Reem period!

        • JDS says:

JDS wins this via easy KO 1st round. Let’s hope Overeem survives this.

        • 757 says:

Dude you need to get a grip. I like Cain but JDS blasted him. Overeem is going to be a juice head without the juice. JDS blasts him out in 2

        • lolziez says:

          u stupid

        • you sir,are a moron says:

You must have never seen the many fights in which overeem got knocked the fuck out……

        • Madchild says:

Thank u……JDS will smash that glass jaw.jds will lay him out like my boy chuck did at the pride grand prix or like shogun did-a crucial beat down.Lol

        • Kenshiro says:

Stop sucking JDS anus and look at the FACTS.

Yes when he was dehydrated and weak in lower weightclasses he got knocked out a couple of times!

He has never been knocked out at HW and that’s for a reason. If he really had a glass jaw one of the HW’s he fought would’ve knocked him out by now. Needless to say they punch a lot harder than most guys in the lower weightclasses. Thats why The Reem is unbeaten at HW, he’s now at healthy. The minute he went up to his natural weightclass, he started demolishing EVERY fucking body. JDS will become just another statistic!

        • Madchild says:

Alright bro…but who did he smash at heavyweight Brett Rogers,Todd duffe,Brock, gimmie a break….look hes a very talented fighter everybody knows that’s.but he hasent fought the best in the world yet and when he does he will get smashed, mark my words.werdum don’t count my man that fight cured my insomnia.

        • mistabutts says:

Overeem got ko’d in his heavyweight debut

    • Yonkers says:

      Fucking idiots I swear.

      • Jaydon says:

JDS, is going to use his speed, footwork and cardio along with that great technique and power to take overeem out, JDS has an iron chin watch the carwin fight if you forget the shot that JDS had taken in the second round. Overeem knows he doesn’t have a solid chin thats why he doesnt throw combo’s only single strikes, he doesn’t use kicks very often just knees and Jds straight right is going to find a home on overeems chin, i’m guessing a 2nd round tko.

    • Samoan Samurai says:

@ kenshiro. Are you kidding? You got too many Cain posters on your wall homey. Cain is a good fighter, and will probably put up a better fight against JDS than his last… BUT, JDS has already crossed that bridge with Cain and he and passed it, easily. The REEM was next but we all know what happened. That’s the one challenger JDS wants and needs to fight at this point in time. Otherwise it turns into the LHW Division where all the fighters Bones Jones has beaten all want a re-match. Lets give everyone one turn each before we start watching re-runs.

  9. B-rad says:

Jr is gettin vocal! I was crushed when this fight got scrapped the first time.. Junior is in a lot of trouble tho in this matchup. He does have amazing boxing skills, especially for MMA. But Overeem has fought, and KO’d the BEST strikers in the world @ K1..IDK how this fight will go down, but i know that Junior would not have had the same success Reem did in K1, Tyrone Spong, Badr Hari, and Semmy Schilt would Ko junior.. Although Reem lost the rematch with Hari and never fought Schilt, Reem has better standup than Junior does, and has better sub skills.. So Junior is gonna need that nuclear bomb to retain the belt

    • Tapitout21 says:

K-1 is a totally different kind of striking. For starters they are wearing 12 ounce gloves and there is no real prolonged clinch work.

      • scotty says:

Exactly, so imagine how it feels to get hit by Overeem with a 4 oz glove instead of a 12 ounce glove.. He can swing faster and with not so much padding.. And what K-1 helped for Overeem is he is well rounded stand up.. The last person JDS fought with remotely great kickboxing skills was Cro cop and he was well out of his prime..

      • B-rad says:

yeah i know theres a difference, but the point was that i dont think Junior would have the same success if he entered in a K1 grand prix.. But its MMA and a lot more unpredicatble than K1 especially when two strikers as dangerous as these guys are.. But Alistairs striking is better, his knees are and kicks are just as dangerous as Jr’s boxing

        • Scotty says:

I was going off what tapout21 said about 12 ounce gloves.. Overeem carries so much power and u add the speed that he has with lighter gloves, he is more likely to KO you than with the 12 ounce gloves.. Also not to add he has powerful kicks and knees plus he has great takedown defense.. Im a fan of both guys but I think JDS’s boxing isnt going to be enough against Overeem’s striking! JDS is going to have a hard time unless he can counter with some powerful shots.. But Overeem has been KO’d so JDS could tag him and put him away! This is why this is a better match up then Cain fight..

  10. Xaninho says:

Maybe It’s going to be JDS-Overeem at the end of this year! A new years eve event maybe?

  11. KW says:

its ok man we are all gonna die December 21st anyway so we dont get to see this fight ROFL

  12. scotty says:

This is a bigger fight for JDS and the UFC! Why do u think Dana comments on how JDS has always done what the UFC asked and cant ignore what JDS asked for.. And also said he will talk to Cain.. That conversation is going to be “hey, we want to put on JDS vs. Overeem right now, sorry u will be next”.. Maybe even throw in some kind of dollar signs too.. Who knows but i have a feeling UFC is going to get involved with Overeem and the commission to get his suspension reduced to put this fight on..

  13. shawn says:

The thing thats so great about this fight is it can go either way. Both have outstanding knockout power and can finish a fight with one punch. We have already seen Cain get knocked the fuck out in the first round, it is someone elses turn. I have been a big JDS fan since his first fight in the UFC, and im confident his striking will best that of Overeems. However JDS needs to calm down not get to hyped up and make a critical error that will cost him his belt.

  14. A.James says:

If he beats Overeem the only fight left for him is possibly Cormier minus a Velasquez rematch.

    • Pelican says:

What if Cormier loses to Mir in their Strikeforce bout? Wouldn’t that possibly hurt Cormier’s position in the UFC cross-over? If he does lost to Mir in Strikeforce, then i don’t see him getting an immediate title-shot. Besides, if Cain beats JDS, Cormier has stated he won’t fight Cain. I feel Cormier will drop to LHW. He would do well there.

      • Kenshiro says:

No matter what Cormier is crossing over to the UFC after that fight Dana has made that clear. Good thing we won’t have to worry about any of that though cause DC will knock Mir out CLEAN!

  15. Mike McMack says:

Whenever these 2 fight I don’t think the it will last more then a few minutes into the first round and I’ve got my money on the very fast and powerful hands of JDS. Overeem’s got a questionable chin and roids don’t improve how well a person can take a punch, I hope we get to see this fight soon.

  16. 757 says:

JDS Blasts him out in two. Overeem beats guys like Brock up who can’t move. JDS can move. Overeems great when he is doing the hitting wait till he starts eating jabs and Right hands. Are you guys kidding when you talk about how much power Overeem has like JDS doesn’t. Your going to see JDS ffeds him jabs, combos, and movement. Juicer is going down.

  17. G-sta says:

Overeem is aint shit. Cain would knock him out

  18. Sean says:

Well I’m saying it now, its 50/50. The Reem is a k-1 chmpion. Dos Santos may not be able to deal with those strikes, but on the other hand JDS used to train with blackhouse mma and he shows it with his high skills in boxing and jiu jitsu. I believe if Reem wins it will be in the late2nd early 3rd. if JDS wins it will be 2nd round tko.I think overeem would try to wrestle, but he usually avoids the ground with jiu jitsu guys. regardless i like both of them and its going to be big like Anderson vs Sonnen 2.

  19. Xaninho says:

Overeem is the more complete striker. JDS has better and faster footwork combined with serious KO power in both hands.

If JDS manages to keep his distance and let his hands go I think he has a big chance to knock Overeem out. Overeem will want to take away his fast footwork using legkicks. So JDS needs to check the legkicks, something he doesn’t do well in my opinion.

If Overeem can catch him with a few leg and bodykicks, gets a chance to clinch and use those nasty knees I see this going to Overeem.

I think it’s 50-50 and whoever manages to execute his gameplan best will win.

  20. 757 says:

    ^^ Agreed good call

    • Kenshiro says:

The kicks will def. be a factor. Overeems kicks are VICIOUS, I can’t help to see this go anyway else than exactly the way the Lesnar/Reem fight went. Sure JDS has MUCH better striking (well boxing) than Lesnar, but he doesn’t have the kicks and that will make a big difference! And we all knock the Dutch Kickboxing style is the best striking base for MMA period and Overeem is a MASTER at it.

  21. Alex says:

Just stop, stop talking everyone. Listen up! overeem is the k-1 champion. those guys standup are much much much better than the standup the ufc fighters have period! Overeem won k-1. Now you will say well chuck and shogun ko’ed him and you are right. but thats a shitload of time since that happened now and overeem changed his standup style completely which has done that he doesnt receive ko blows anymore. Yeah overeem has ofc been on steroids otherwise you dont get that physic and I think we can all agree on that and I am curious how he will do without his steroids. Anyway if overeem fights like he always does his standup is going to be better than jds and jds will get ko’ed I am sorry. jds is great but he is the underdog if the fight stays standing and people who know something about mma and other organisations besides ufc would tell you the same. But maybe he will perform badly without his peds who really knows. But no matter whats its gonna be a fight for the ages matchup wise

  22. Dee says:

Becareful for what you wish for. You might just get it.

  23. d-squad says:

all jds has is his boxing while the reem had knees head kicks leg kicks a great guillotine. the only way i see jds winning is if he gets another shot like he did against valasquez

  24. maurice says:

oh give me a break on this overeem being a legit striker bs. alistair hasnt outstruck a single credible striker in a mma fight. the truth is the big gloves in k1 helped alistair drastically in k1. in a mma fight alistair doenst have those big gloves to hide his glass chin behind him. u guys gotta be crazy to think reem has the speed, skills, or cardio to fuck with jds. not to mention werdum outstruck reem. with the improvements werdum has made in the past year, im willing to bet werdum would tko reem if they were to fight again. imo, cain, werdum, carwin, nelson, cormier, jds, etc would all knock alistair the fuck out before round 3.

  25. james says:

one right hand night night ‘reem I laughed when he said JDS was scared Reems got jokes

  26. wild card says:

i say the winner of Cain vs Overeem then fight JDS not really a cain fan but whats fair is fair cain has already fought JDS and i know he suposely had knee problems before that fight but with Overeems P.E.D. scandal its not fair he fights for the belt his first fight back plus UFC could use this fight to really premote the championship fight with JDS
