Donald Cerrone vs. Yves Edwards Booked For UFC on FX 3

A lightweight bout that is sure to deliver fireworks has been booked for the UFC on FX 3 event set for May.

UFC officials took to the UFC Tonight news show on FUEL TV last night to announce the lightweight matchup between Donald Cerrone and Yves Edwards.

UFC on FX 3 is set to take place from the Patriot Center in Fairfax, VA on May 15.

Cerrone has quickly turned into a UFC fan favorite after being imported from the WEC. After stringing together a six-fight win streak that included victories over the likes of former top-ten ranked lightweight Dennis Siver. All his momentum halted in his UFC 141 bout against Nate Diaz when he lost a lopsided decision and in the process broke the UFC record for most strikes landed on.

Edwards is a long-time MMA veteran who last saw action in a losing effort to “TUF” 13 winner Tony Ferguson this past December. Since reentering the UFC he has gone 3-2.

This matchup does little for Cerrone if he wins as far as placement in the rankings, but a win for Edwards reignites his career and places him up the ladder greatly.

The bouts placement on the card was not given during the FUEL TV broadcast; however it is expected to take place on the main card.

This is clearly made to be a fan friendly fight. 2 guys who like to strike. Although I see Cowboy winning VIA submission.

  7. magoo says:

Sorry no disrespect to Yves but what the FUKC? I guess the ufc wants Cerrone to start a new win streak…lol in all seriousness why the hell would Donald sign for this fight?

  8. Ethan says:

lol at all the people counting Yves out… Yves has the style to beat Cerrone on the feet… NOT saying he will.. but I would never say that I know whose gonna win… with as fast as Yves strikes are and as little head movement as Cerrone had in his last fight, I would be very cautious to give anyone an edge… this should be a great fight and that is the only comment that needs to be posted on this article… lol

  9. JB Spencer says:

WTF, they shoulda gave him ferguson instead, how do you go from fighting nate diaz to edwards that quik. This will do nothing for his carrer, ferguson would be a much beter fight, cowboy wd win, and beating a TUF winer wd look much beter on his resume. Plus el cucha cabre or whatever his nick name is needs that step up in competition, win or lose it wd be good for him

  10. Ricardo says:

Tony “El Cucuy” Ferguson. tony is underrated he is going to KO Hallman..

  11. Ninja Oreo Dollop says:

Edwards is good. Idk what people are talking about on here but he put on a very entertaining fight against Tony Fergusson. If he gets rocked by Nate Diaz I wonder what Yves will do to him.

Guys, I hope some of you are smart enough to see Dana plays favorites. Hes trying to get cowboy another W. Some he hates and makes matches he almost knows they cant win. Has been this way for a long time. I believe match making should be done by a third party based on rank, style of fighter, w vs l, ect….ya know…..Dana has created his own world playing the powerful OZ. I dont blame him but he is inconsistent, bi-polar, andshort fused. Those things spill over into the fights……
