Donald Cerrone On Nate Diaz | "After this fight, I'm going to call him out and get him to fight me"

By Jamie McAllister
Donald Cerrone comments in an interview with Pro MMA Radio.

Cerrone comments on his last fight against Nate Diaz.

“I haven’t really watched the fight to tell you the truth, I was just real flat-footed, man I was just off. Some people have off nights and that was a hell of an off night, you know? I wasn’t fighting the way I fight. No excuses, he showed up that night and I didn’t. My hat’s off to the dude. He looked real good against Jim Miller. I’m a fan of the dude. As much shit as we were talking, he goes out there and fights, that’s what he does. After this fight, I’m going to call him out and get him to fight me in a rematch in Denver, see if he takes the bait. He throws down, I would like to fight him again on the main card and get that fight of the night because it would be another scrap for sure.”

Cerrone comments on his next bout against Jeremy Stephens.

“He is not much of a kicker, I kick, but he has heavy hands. He throws a big overhand and got good body shots and has good takedowns. When he is on top he is doing very well. So, where do I need to take him? I need to put him on his back and stay long and out strike him. Yeah, my submission game is feeling incredible right now, it’s something I’ve really been working on. I’m coming out, I’m winning, I know that. I’m going for the finish any chance I get.”

Cerrone also reveals he has had multiple visits to the hospital during his training camp.

“This fight was a son of a bitch man. I had staph infection in my knee so bad I had to go into the emergency room and get IV’s. I just get out of the hospital and I get pulled right back in because I rolled my stomach. My stomach got twisted, so I did eight more days in the intensive care unit, so, it was pretty sweet man. I twisted one of my intestines right below my stomach, in training. I got into an accident, so my stomach is messed up anyways, from years ago. They were talking about surgery. They were going to try one thing where they let all of my intestines out and they fill me full of water and try to unspin it, and that worked, thank God, I guess, so. I’m not telling you that (when it happened), because I don’t want anyone else to know, you’re the first person I said it to. The whole thing was hush, hush, hush. The only person that new was the insurance company of the UFC. I don’t want anyone saying, “Oh, he was in the hospital, he ain’t training.” Shit, let’s go, I’m ready, there ain’t no stopping me. I was in the hospital for me knee and my guts, let’s go. I’m a cowboy to the end, so. I’m healthy and great. If anything, it just helped lose weight.”

30 Comments to Donald Cerrone On Nate Diaz | "After this fight, I'm going to call him out and get him to fight me"

  1. E716 says:

    Probably get picked apart again.

  2. dynomania says:

hell no he is not getting picked apart again. Cerrone is a damn good fighter. You all forget his incredible year before losing to Diaz. He was beating good competition soundly.

    • Dontbescaredhomie says:

Yeah then diaz put hands all over his face it would happen again no doubt probably even worse because diaz knows he can only land leg kicks on him

    • What? says:

Oliveira was the only guy he beat that had some sort of promise, and Oliveira took that fight on short notice and he’s still learning.. And don’t say Siver, when Siver belongs at 145.

Let Cerrone talk all he wants: he doesn’t deserve a rematch with Nate…yet. For Diaz to fight Cerrone again would be a step backwards for Nate. Bring on Pettis or the winner of Guida/Maynard (Diaz lost to both those guys, right?).

    • Get rid of Fitch (forever) says:

Cerrone got his ass kicked plain and simple and he needs to go back to end of line but i understand with Edgar also getting his ass kicked by Bendo didn’t have to go to back of the line. At some point these guys need to just suck it up and quit whining and go back to end of the ****ing line like maynard did.

  3. ,., says:

Yeah until he came up against Diaz..In a rematch Cerrone would get submitted.

  4. Ninja Oreo Dollop says:

That hospital bit with the intestines and stomach was a little disturbing. Maybe that’s why he’s been with out a fight for so long.

  5. Bornkiller87 says:

Yeah are you guys talking about the year when he beat paul kelly in a lackluster fight(cut by ufc) and then went on to beat an undersized olivera that fights 145 now or the one when he beats dennis the midget siver who is also undersized for 155 div??He is a good fighter but he should not be thinking about calling out diaz after what diaz did to him especially when you got jeremy stephens coming up. Cerrone is way over his head IMO

  6. BobO says:

Cowboy bumped his head. Diaz whooped his ass, and would do it again. ~BobO

  7. Calvin says:

He should call out pettis that would be a sick fight and winner would def get the title shot

  8. Fuckyoursister says:

Calvin your a idiot! Hope you know that…

  9. Duhh says:

U all on his dick after beating Jim miller, he loses the fight ur on cowboys dick….y’all people don’t know shit and it doesn’t matter what u think, Diaz didnt stop cerrone….so how is it a mismatch….half time fans like to comment on fights….hate it

    • Not a mismatch says:

because it’s Joe Silva’s job to make good MATCHES, not mismatches. But Diaz dominated Cerrone for 3 rounds. You don’t have to be finished to be dominated. If it wasn’t for the leg sweeps that Diaz failed to defend (which he didn’t have to because Cerrone wasn’t about to take the fight to the ground), Cerrone pretty much did nothing.
      Duhhh….very apparent.

  10. Shawn says:

I’d like to see a rematch for sure. That Cerrone wasn’t the Cerrone who was fighting in the WEC. If he fought the way he is capable, it would be a barn burner. Toss up.

    • andy says:

THANK YOU! Cowboy said it best. Diaz showed up, he did not. I think Diaz has made leaps and bounds but Cowboy still could have made it a hell of a fight. It definitely wasn’t the Cowboy I love to watch.

  11. GetOffAndersonsNuts says:

Diaz would win again imo, but hopefully Donald learned that head movement is key against an amazing boxer like diaz

  12. Fedor says:

Ask for a rematch against a superior fighter.

  13. Ninja Oreo Dollop says:

You know Cerrone’s beating was the reason Condit ran away and point fought.

  14. joker.... says:

If u all remember right he was floorin diaz with those leg kicks but not following up, he was too wrapped up in the emotions of the fight and probably a little scared of nates ground gsme. Hes sayin his submissions are getting better so who knows, maybe he’ll have the confidence to try workin nate on the ground next time round, but id still fancy diaz for the win

  15. Kyle says:

BAAAAAAAAAAAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!! What, getting COMPLETELY DOMINATED last time didn’t sit well with you?

  16. Kyle says:

I just could not understand Joe Rogan’s pre-fight analysis when he said that their striking was equal, I was like, “What is Joe smoking? Oh right, weed!” But then when he said that their BJJ was equal, I assumed he must be on crack. The Diaz brothers have 9th Planet Jiu-Jitsu, there’s no way on Earth that Cowboy can ever compare to their grappling.

  17. Mark says:

    Jeremy Stephens FTW

  18. Zod says:

Cowboy takes the rematch, he didnt look right in the first fight

  19. Deeznuts says:

Lol Nate is ion another level right now… Just face it people

  20. Bear says:

I am a fan of the cowboy, well his fighting not his personality. I never thought he would get outclassed by Diaz. I was really looking forward to that fight. maybe he wasn’t on top of his game that fight. But Diaz has bigger fish to fry, now. He’s in the title hunt , no way diaz will he take the fight. But then again , he is a Diaz , do you never know what those guys are gonna do next. After one fight Diaz will be disrespectful , the next he will be humble. Dudes Wierd.
Either way, best of luck to Donald. Very talented dude.
