Donald Cerrone On Fighting Teammates | "I would fight Leonard (Garcia), and I live with him"
By Jamie McAllister
Donald Cerrone comments to Pro MMA Radio.
Cerrone shares his thoughts on fighting teammates.
“I still am, 100 percent (Rashad’s friend). Every day, I would walk in and say, ‘I’m team Rashad.’ It was just like that, I wear everything on my sleeve, I say how it is and I talk right to people. I would tell Jon (Jones), ‘I’m team Rashad, man. That’s my boy, that’s my brother.’ And Jones is cool man, he is a cool dude. I have no hard feelings. I go out with him and hang all the time and I train with him. It’s not like I would take his training and tell Rashad, I wouldn’t go that far. But he is like, ‘I respect the fact that you were friends with Rashad before you met me and that you’re sticking by your boy, and I respect that.’ As for me, I will fight anyone. I will fight anybody. I would fight Leonard (Garcia), and I live with him. Does that answer your question? I would fight Clay (Guida), and he will still be my boy. I mean, this is what we do, we’re professionals and there is going to come a time when teammates are going to have to fight. That’s just the way it goes.”

What a dumptruck……..this fool is a traitor to his friends for a check. What a chump I’m so glad Diaz beat this kid senseless.
You sound like an emotional ass woman. This is a combat sport. Fighting is what they do, *****. Unless a fighter’s contract contains a “I will not fight, nor will I be expected to fight a friend” clause, then they should full well expect that they may find themselves in a position where they would have to square off against a friend.
Whatever happened to the honor of competing in glorious combat? So many fighters have lost sight of what the sport is really about. They need to ditch this stupid gang mentality and man up!
yeah, and you are a dork.
burn
Get over it!!
i’d beat up my best friend and then bang his girlfriend. that’s life, bro.
Cerrone has a healthy attitude about that.
Agreed. Its part of the job. Nothing personal. And if they are real friends, fighting each other because they are contracted, won’t change anything.
Of course he’ll fight Garcia
Why wouldn’t he want a win bonus AND a FOTN bonus?
Look @ the big picture, Cowboy went on recored saying he wants a title shot after 2 fights or so. He’s saying this to set it up, to NOT make make waves. To sound like the “company man” He wants that gold strap, he wouldn’t fight his best fuxxing boy Leonard. No way!
Cerrone just told a story about how he was training hard with some guy & it got pretty real, Leonard was right there about to clean the dudes clock. These guys are brothers, Cerrone’s being SMART. Im sure his plan is to make Lil Heathen look like a minor league fighter, call out Nate (which he said he would do) try to win that fight & make a case for a title shot.
Too bad Fitch and Koscheck didn’t have the same attitude as Cerrone. Time for dana to s[ep in once and for all with Fitch and koscheck especially since they are no longer teammates. Both are coming off losses and both are top 10 well at least Kos is.
Fitch and Koscheck, what I don’t get is the fact that Fitch seems like a decent bloke yet he chooses to be friends with Koscheck. Obviously we don’t know Koscheck personally but he’s that much of **** you kind of don’t need to get to know him to see that he’s quite clearly a dickhead.
Yeah i agree kos is definatlely a jerk but compared to your boy Bisping he should be president. What kind of douchbag spits on people in the cage. Only reason spitsbing did’t get fined and kicked out of teh UFC was it happened in australia (no commission) Nevada would have fined and threw the book at him. You Brits can have that piece of shit who is overrated. If he wasn’t being protected by UFC they would have given Vitor his wish at getting revenge for Rivera. Yeah what a piece of shit Bisping is that was the most blatent intentional foul since Daley. Should have been disqualified but of course Dana acted like it never happened because it was his Brit poster boy. Until UFC makes Bisping fight some strikers like Lombard. Munoz, Vitor, Franklin, Belcher, Stann he shouldn’t even be ranked in top 10. We all saw what Hendo did to him and that is exactly what would happen if UFC wasn’t protecting him from the REAL top contenders.
Speaking of intentional fouls, don’t forget Kos’s constant eye pokes.
James excellent point i was just pointing that out to my son when we watched Koscheck vs Hendricks. Koscheck intentionly eye poked Hendricks at the start of the fight to try and get a fast KO to avange his butt buddy Fitch. The refs need to do someting about Kos constant eye pokes.
More fighters need to have this mentality. Other fighters/athletes in other combat sports have this mentality overwhelmingly in spades. We can be friends all day, but there is a line where business becomes business, and you have to put aside that friendship for the sake of business. When you have friends going for the same brass ring as you, you can’t expect people to simply “step aside”, so you can have a shot at it clear and free, nor should they expect the same from you.
Facts are facts this is there job to fight if they do t fight they dont get paid no o e else is going to pay their bills d
I agree with him. It’s a profession.
The only people who don’t want to fight their “friend” are afraid that their “friend” is better than them & they’d have to live with that in the gym forever. For example, Tito & Rashad. It’s an ego thing, & those without the ego are willing to fight their friends.
I’m with Donald on this one. In all honesty if my own brother and I were in the same weight class and they wanted us to fight to see who gets a title shot, I’d do it and I’m sure he would too. We’d both get paid, the promoter would hype the fight like it was the last fight ever, one of us would get a shot at our dream, and it would be fun! We’d know each others strengths and weaknesses, it would be fair and would be a fight for the ages. You can’t call yourself the best if you haven’t fought someone in your class because your friends. It sounds more like an excuse than anything else to me.
Dana’s probably like, “Hell yeah mother ****ers! That’s how it’s supposed to be! Cerrone’s gonna get paid!”
if u cant fight ur homie and still be homies after then u must not be that close and iif u wanna avoid that situation dont make friends in ur weight class
Much respect to D.C. for saying this, probably the only guy on the roster who is willing
Donald just says it as it is man it is a job to these guys! The fella above, this isn’t a Brit thing, I know Bisping can be a tool and he has been protected there’s no doubt about that. It’s not like in saying all Brits are great and Americans aren’t it’s not a national bias as I think the most talented dudes are Brazilian and American, at the end of the day a muppet is a muppet no matter where they’re from!
Donald would fight his own mother if it was in the best interest of the business is what he’s basically saying.
