Dominick Cruz Could Be Out For Up To Eighteen Months Rehabbing Injury | UFC News

By Jamie McAllister
Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Bantamweight Champion Dominick Cruz tweeted both good and bad news yesterday.

@TheDomin8r: So stitches r out n no more crutches! After 2 more weeks I downsize my knee brace, n then I’ll b walking like a champ!!

Cruz was forced out of his title defence against Urijah Faber due to a knee injury suffered in training.

“UFC Tonight’s” Ariel Helwani spoke with Dominick Cruz about his recovery from surgery.

“He’s actually feeling great. You know, he had the surgery on June 6th, a total reconstruction of his ACL and MCL in his left leg. He’s feeling great. He’s saying he’s ahead of schedule right now. Right now, it’s a little too early to say just when he’ll be ready to return. He’s doing the normal physical therapy, right now. This is an injury that could take an athlete nine to maybe 18 months to return to his previous form. So right now, his spirits are high, but he doesn’t want to put any kind of date out as far as when he could return to the Octagon.”

The Bantamweight Interim title bout between Urijah Faber and Renan Barao at UFC 149 in Calgary, Alberta on July 21, 2012 the winner will likley be Cruz next opponent depending on his return date.

LOL its funny they posted this as if Cruz had said he might be out that long. But it was just Ariel Helwani speculating really.

  2. Lol says:

Only pussies get injured. Back in my day we use to duct tape whatever was hurt

    • Zack says:

That’s smart! Have you ever thought about being a doctor?

    • Pat Sagack says:

damn straight back in ‘Nam we use to use gunpowder to seal a wound too. But I’ll tell you one thing never did anyone of us in my platoon cry. Men don’t cry.

      • Bob says:

Back in my days injuries didnt exist. The word injury came into play back in the early 1900s when jews implemented circumsision on the American ppl so it can decrease the size and feeling of their penis to match theirs. Unfortunately jews declared injury bc of their penis wasnt up to par and started wars with everyone who didnt have lil dick jew syndrom.

        • Pat Sagack says:

Well thats good to know that, I guess the jews gave the chinamen the idea to bomb pearl habor to have us engage in war then. I hated ‘Nam because I was up to my neck in bowlhair cuts. Don’t know how many Mr. Spock haircut wearing chinamen i had to kill.

        • krafty11 says:

you sir, are an idiot of the highest order..

        • Nuitari X says:

Japan bombed pearl harbor not china. Just sayin’……..

    • jbeamazing says:

why didn’t he just rip the sleeve off of his shirt and wrap it around his leg this is first day stuff somebody get steven seagal in his training camp asap

    • Gabi says:

Duck tape is for cars and outdoor shit. It’s black electrical tape for injuries duh.

      • katalog www says:

I simply wanted to appreciate you all over again. I am not sure the things that I would’ve sorted out in the absence of these information revealed by you concerning such theme. Previously it was a frightful circumstance for me personally, nevertheless being able to see your specialized style you handled the issue made me to leap with delight. I will be thankful for this help and thus trust you realize what a great job you happen to be getting into training the others through your blog. I am sure you’ve never met any of us.

  3. Unarmed Spectator says:

Yeah back in WW2 we put a finger in our bullet wounds! AND when we ran out of fingers we’d stick a cock in it… That’s where the saying Cock strong came from!

  4. JP says:

Strip the belt and let the winner of Faber vs Barao be champ. If you are out for that long im sorry but he can fight his way back because when he does come back to defend it he will not be ready and he will be rusty as fuck. He will get destroyed not to mention i am tired of fighters waiting for the belt when they are interim champion.

    • wtf says:

So your saying that just because of an injury during training, that a fighter should be stripped of his belt bc of rehab?? So GSP should have his belt taken away also?? You are a fucking moron.

  5. bigfan says:

Once again, takes something someone said out-of-context to make their own stories more attractive.

Cruz’s quote was “I dont want to put on a date on my return”

Ariel Helwani said “Athletes tend to be out from about 9 to as much as 18 months for an ACL surgery”

BJPENN.COM says “Cruz could be out for 18 months”

    Good journalism you f*cking tools.

  6. T.DADDY says:

Good.. I hope he never comes back.. fukkn weak ass point fighter… Faber won the last fiight.. how the hell you knock a guy down 3times n stilll lose the fight.. this guy sukks

    • John M says:

      T. Daddy speaks the truth! I just wanna see Faber kick Cruz’s ass. Faber will be champion for a long time

      • Come at me bro says:

Dude Faber lost that last fight and won’t be a champion a long time he won’t even be a interim champ he gonna get smoked at 149 leg kick stoppage lol Cruz is a great fighter and a stand up guy trains his ass off in the best city in the world San Diego baby killers from the Salty D

        • T.DADDY says:

in the judges eyes Faber lost… the rest of the mma world knows he really won.. cruz is garbage.. be a boxer if you wanna point fight

  7. jbeamazing says:

that’s why I hate bullying this poor junior high kid wait that boy that looks 12 is a ufc champ wow lol

  8. jbeamazing says:

poor kid that’s why I hate bullies in junior high wait this 12 year old looking kid is a ufc champ lol

  9. WrestlingRules says:

Cruz is a badass. He’s beaten up everybody he faces. WTF is wrong with you hombres??? Faber’s good but Cruz out worked him.

  10. Kjtrlt says:

playing it up a little though, the quote says 9 to 18 months. thats a bit of range there.

  11. some dude says:

Faber is gay he trains in his underwear with other dudes in there underwear getting all sweaty just seems a little to queer for me hes past his prime and hes getting smoked at ufc 149 and he knows it he was but hurt cause he wanted to fight Ivan not as dangerous as berou menjivar and he didn’t want to fight ranen more dangerous then aldo berou.

    • Nuitari X says:

Wow, you should check the spelling of fighter’s names and figure out who the hell you are trying to talk about before you post. Just sayin’………..

  12. Pancho says:

    Fuck Cruz. Fuck pointfighters

  13. R4j4 says:

Cruz’s fights are so boring, I hope he stays out for 18 months at the v least

  14. chris says:

I definitely do not like Cruz fighting style, and he is probably the least exciting champion(besides GSP obv) but at least Cruz has been in a few decent fights and he’s tough, Faber should have been more aggressive in there fight, and he would have easily won. He will smash Barao, then let’s hope he makes some adjustments and puts it on Cruz when he returns.

    • Nuitari X says:

I’ve been a fan of faber since his W.E.C. days ( The way he fights, not his pretty boy attitude mind you.) but he has a tendency to be reckless. If he goes out there and doesn’t focus and be patient, barao is gonna make him pay.

      • chris says:

I havnt seen Barao too much just a few fights but i havnt really been impressed too much he doesn’t seem that dangerous striking wise, like people are comparing him to Aldo he isnt even close to that level. I do agree Urijah can be reckless. But i just can’t see any of these bantamweights having any chance against Faber. Except maybe Wineland, he did awesome in there fight, I was live for that, couldnt believe how Eddie was defending takedowns with ease early on.

  15. Gabi says:

And all you dumbasses talking about war this war that. Just stop you were never in any war (COD or any video game doesn’t count as well as D&D or watching a movie either), have any idea of war and most of all it’s hella disresptical to the people who were there. War is nothing to joke about ask prople who have been there, why do you think they don’t like talking about it. Also go tell all the Jew shit to an Israeli commando as well as the China/Nam BS to a martial artist. Please get it right as to who it was that attacked the US and got the country into WW2. Find out who the real tough guy is. I love all the damn Internet tough guys.

Second don’t talk shit about a fighter. Just training and getting into the ring is something very hard and earned. Unless you are a UFC fighter current or retired shut the fuck up, you have no right no speak about a professional. They are fighting at the highest level. Or understand what it really is to get into a real fight not some dumb street fight w/ some moron who knows nothing about fighting besides natural instinct and fear.

Finally whoever wrote this title should be ashamed, easy to see that it is all for attention (like a person who says they always want to kill themselves). Simply saying Cruz out 9-18 months would have been a million times better. Making it seem as if Cruz had the worst injury in the world not even that shows a lack of basic journalism class where you were thought how to write a correct title, basic 201 which is 101 really. Idk just my 2 cents on that.

    • Franco says:

I think everyone would like to return to you, your 2 cents. Good day to you keyboard warrior. Also ACL injuries are the ones most athletes don’t want the most, since it could forever alter you. I speak from experience blew out mine wrestling in college I was going to be a divison 2 champ but lost it all before the season and was never the same

  16. M says:

Interim belts are pointless. If a champion doesn’t defend in one calendar year he should be stripped of the title.
