Nick Diaz Scheduled For BJJ Super Fight Next Month

It has been nearly 2-years since Nick Diaz slapped on a Gi for competition purposes, but with his MMA career on hold he is set to make a return to the competition circuit.
Widely considered as one of Cesar Gracie’s top student, Nick Diaz is now set to compete in a “super fight” at the World Jiu-Jitsu Expo scheduled for May 12 in Long Beach, Calif.

Apr 3, 2012 – While Nick Diaz’s MMA future may still be in doubt, the former Strikeforce welterweight champion has decided to return to his Brazilian jiu-jitsu roots.
The World Jiu-Jitsu Expo and Cesar Gracie, Diaz’s trainer and manager, have confirmed that Diaz will compete in a BJJ super-fight at the WJJE on May 12 in Long Beach, Calif.
According to Gracie, Diaz wanted to enter one of the WJJE’s tournaments, however, Expo officials chose to have him only compete in a super-fight. No opponent has been signed just yet.
Diaz, a black belt under Gracie, hasn’t competed in a BJJ match in two years. Gracie said the UFC, “usually doesn’t want (Nick) competing (in BJJ) if it’s near a fight, (but) he has no fight lined up.”
Gracie added that he expects to find out this week when Diaz’s hearing with the Nevada State Athletic Commission for his positive drug test following his UFC 143 loss to Carlos Condit will take place. He teased last week via Twitter that Diaz’s MMA days aren’t over, despite retiring following the loss to Condit.
The first-ever World Jiu-Jitsu Expo will take place at the Long Beach Convention Center. In addition to the Diaz super-fight, fans attending the Expo can take part in free seminars with BJJ stars Renzo Gracie, Braulio Estima, Roger Gracie, Robert Drysdale, Rodrigo Comprido and Andre Galvao.
For more on the Expo, including how to purchase tickets, visit the WJJE official Web site.

BJJ matches aren’t fights
Ruben you are a douche!
I would like to see you competing against someone who knows bjj and then have you say that it isnt a fight. Hell I even take you on myself!
i agree…but Alex you a bitch ok…u aint taking on anybody bitch
i ll take both of you in either bjj or mma, whats up
…not on the streets though i got glassed a few months back im having an alistar tipe scar on my forehead, lets compete and be friends
)
nick diaz 2012 WW champ BELIEVE!
Just because you’re competing and its physical doesn’t mean its a fight you ****ing dick eater. Soccer gets pretty rough at times but can you say thats a fight? No…and i’ve trained bjj and boxing, if you think bjj is fighting then you must be a soft *****, talk to me when you’ve taken a shot to the face you bitch
i agree with Ruben as well.
Its competition, just like MMA.
So if you compete then its a fight? i guess poker is a fight, and so is soccer. Use your brain you clown. BJJ matches are not fights, period.
Ruben, BJJ isnt a fight? You can be choked untill you pass out. im pretty sure i would count that as a “fight”. Either way this argument isnt going to get you anywhere in life. So go play MW3 and eat a donut you fat ****…
yeah shut up ruben!
**** all your mothers!
****
It’s kinda pointless to argue over cause it’s just a word but I sort of agree. To call a BJJ match a “fight” is kind of disrespectful to the art. Nobody’s fighting, It’s a competition, a match, but not a fight. But again, whatever, its like arguing the difference between a ‘movie’ and a ‘film’.
I think it’s a simplistic argument really. I’m not the foremost expert on BJJ and in no way claim to be. But it seems to me like its motional art, kind of like what Hawkeye said. You’re trying to achieve a certain position on your opponent, so it’s kind of like a physical chess match. Sure, there’s some pain, some choking out, and what have you, but that’s part of the technique, the art. The way most of us perceive “a fight” would not include a BJJ match. The word “fight” has its own meaning that is ingrained in our brains at a young age. 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th grade you hear someone say, “They are going to fight on the playground,” you’re not thinking, “Oh wow, he’s going to take his back and give him a rear naked.” No you’re thinking, “These kids are going to straight up kick the shit out of each other, haymakers with no precision flying everywhere. A lot of cursing. Possibly blood. Maybe some kicking and biting if there’s time before the principal breaks it up. Thus, from a young age most of us associate “a fight” with a certain mental image.
hell yeah i live right next to long beach.
Yeah sucks to live in denmark
Wait.. BJ mentioned he wanted to go back to his root and do some BJJ tournaments.. I highly doubt he’s the one Nicks fighting here but who knows.. thatd be pretty awesome.
It’ll be awesome if they have him go up against Marcelo Garcia! Would be epic!
hey hey hey hey ………………………………………..Smoke weed every day
he surfaces once again
No UFC? No problem. Diaz said himself that not having an MMA fight wouldn’t stop him from doing what he is all about, and that’s competiting on a mat, in a ring,… Like Henderson entering a grappling tournament days after becoming champion…don’t matter what it is, fighters like them just do it.
Great way to stay sharp..wondering who he’ll be going against?
Bj v Diaz .. Straight up bjj comp!
im bout that
Anyone who thinks BJJ matches are fights is a *****.
Tell that to Frank Mir you ****ing butt pirate.
if bjj is not a fight then why do you fall asleep if you dont tap? lol
In football you can get concussions, you can get severe injuries, you can even be left paralyzed, does that mean its a fight?
fight:
verb
to engage in battle or in single combat; attempt to defend oneself against or to subdue, defeat, or destroy an adversary.
Glad to see Nick back on the mat. Would love to see BJ competing again in BJJ.
I love how they said it was a “superfight” but listed no opponent haha
If you can die a violent death by the limbs of the other person, its a fight. Striking doesn’t make you any more or less of a fighter than being able to snap limbs and choke someone unconscious. If you really think bjj isn’t fighting then you really aren’t bjj fighter and you’re just bullshittin with the people. You can get choked to death and beat to death and i’m pretty they will say you died in a fight regardless of which way you went out.
agreed and i thought i didn’t like you lol
You argee with him but still dislike him
So I take it they dont drug test so he’ll be fine to puff the dragon all he wants. Hell he’ll do it 15 minutes before the fight. I can see him yelling at his brother to hold his joint
if he loses, is he going to cry and retire from bjj competitions?
Props to Nick…the dudes a go getter, I’m beginning to be a fan….I think!
I think wrestling has less to do with real fighting than (B)JJ. At least (B)JJ is focused on finishing or submitting the opponent.
You must be high… In todays MMA wrestling is everything. Without it you are just a Salmon in a pool full of Great White sharks…Top level Wrestling would beat top level Bjj 9/10. I love BJJ and i am not a big fan of wrestling but to say that is just retarded.
hostile hunter you are retarded. Royce Gracie already proved you wrong in the early 90′s BJJ is the best. wrestlers are doing bjj now because its superior to wrestling dont get it twisted.
Man dis niggga gay
Nd a bitch
Diaz V Eddie Bravo…
Kron Gracie, Clark Gracie, or Kayron Gracie
