A welterweight match-up between Josh Koschek and Demian Maia will be added to UFC 163, MMAFighting.com confirmed Tuesday night.
The fight will be important for both athletes. Koscheck (17-7) has lost two straight fights, a split decision loss to current number one welterweight contender, Johnny Hendricks, and more recently a first-round TKO loss to Robbie Lawler. With the UFC cutting a number of fighters recently, this fight is a must-win for Koscheck, who has dropped in the welterweight rankings to number 10.
For Maia (18-4), this fight offers another step forward in his run for the welterweight title. Since dropping from middleweight to face Dong Hyun Kim in July of 2012, Maia has won three straight improving himself to the number 5 contender at 170 lbs.
The UFC has yet to officially announce this fight, which will most likely be on the main card headlined by the featherweight title fight between Anthony Pettis and champion, Jose Aldo.
