Demian Maia Open To Welcoming Nick Diaz Back From Suspension | UFC NEWS
Demian Maia recently earned another UFC welterweight “W” during UFC 153 opposite Rick Story Oct 13, 2012. Before that July 7’s UFC 148, Maia won via TKO opposite Dong Hyun Kim in the first round, when Kim had a muscle spasm. Demian Maia cordially welcomes a bout against Nick Diaz in the future during his Oct 18 interview Tatame.com
“Dude, I think Nick Diaz and Jon Fitch that opponents would surely have much name this division and I would climb fast. The others, I think they are marked with struggles, but these two guys are certainly very tough and they would have proved much I climb in the division.
I think the two have much jiu-jitsu. Both with Nick as with Fitch. Both are good with that, just that I feel more focused on the Fitch’s wrestling than with his jiu-jitsu, and Nick is a guy more with boxing than jiu-jitsu.”

I wouldn’t mind seeing this fight. This guy was still developing his MMA game when he faced Marquart or Silva at MW. He would better Diaz on the ground and he has proven his wrestling is good enough to take it there. Not saying he is better than Diaz overall. However; I couldn’t think of a more credible opponent as a contender eliminator.
Congratulations, you are the first person to make an intelligent comment in the comments section on bjpenn.com perhaps there is hope for this site after all.
nick diaz vs demian maia winner should fight winner of rory mcdonald vs bj penn for no1 contender.
Nick vs Anderson
Thank you!
that’s so dumb!!! BJ is done, I am a huge fan but we never know what BJ we are getting and Rory has not fought in a long time, one fight should not grant you a fight for a title
Diaz already smashed bj penn, he would do it again! Macdonald wont fight gsp, said he would wait till gsp loses or went to a different division! And james. You are an ignorrant dipshit!
bj penn would beat nick diaz if he comes in top shape. would still be a great fight tho.
yep, this would be a GREAT fight. ps, diaz would run through an in shape penn.
Diaz runs through any welterweight that isn’t Condit or GSP
Stone cold althoughI agree with you to the point that I love BJ Penn and his fighting I have to say that it is his responsibility to come in shape. I wish everyone would stop giving that excuse. Diaz beat him …period. If that was because Diaz was in better shape than that’s how it goes. It’s part of the thing, On to the fight Diaz and Mia is a dynamite fight. Both guys are durable and super talented in their fields of expertise. I think it’s an awesome fight.
Nick would land punches over and over on Maia. Nick’s jiu-jitsu is good enough to defend against Maia’s and that’s all he would need to do. This fight would play right into Nick’s hands. Literally. I could care less who wins, but that’s what I see happening. I rarely even watch mma anymore anyway.
Nick’s kryptonite would be maia.
Maia is on a tear at 170. He could squeeze the blood out of Diaz’s face like he did with Story. Diaz’s BJJ is not on the same level as Maia’s.
It’s not on the same level, but I think it’s good enough to defend. Hey you could be right, I’m not one of these guys who think they know everything.
I want to Maia submit Fitch. I believe Diaz would beat Condit in a rematch. Do you think he was expecting Condit to run away for 25 minutes? Diaz would start the fight like the 5th and take Condit out
I would love to see this fight, sounds like a great come back fight for Nick. That’s all it is though a come back fight. Diaz is different level! Maia is an amazing fighter (at his level) he’s not in the same league as Diaz, Penn or GSP. Would be a great fight all the same.
I would be very interested in this fight! If Maia stands with Diaz he’ll get destroyed but if it goes to the ground this could be extremely interesting. Alot of people boo when MMA fights go to the ground and it becomes a grappling match. True fans like myself and others only become more fascinated when these situations occur and I would love to see these two guys on the ground.
i think maia vs nick would be interesting but not as nick’s comeback fight. i’d probably prefer the winner of Kampmann vs hendricks.
maia can either fight fitch or rory..he’d probably squeeze out all of rory’s pimples..lol
I would like to see him fight Fitch.
I would love to see this match!
Knowing Nick Diaz, he won’t mind testing his jijitsu skills against Maia.
And Maia is also very tough (remember his fight with Anderson Silva)
So, even in a boxing match, if Nick decides to play with him, he’ll stand in the pocket.
Anyway this is worth a main event
Diaz would own him but it’s not a bad stylistic matchup i guess.
WAR DIAZ WAR! so happy he is coming back. This fight will be remarkable. Maia must work on his stand up to begin but on the floor he has a advantage maia is a true beast with his jits.
