Demian Maia Indefinitely Sidelined with Bone Infection

Unfortunate news in the UFC world today, as welterweight Demian Maia has been recently diagnosed with a bone infection, that will be keeping him out of the sport indefinitely.

The Sao Paulo native has been diagnosed with Osteomyelitis, a bone infection that can occur from infected tissue or from the bone itself being exposed to the bacteria. Maia’s manager, Eduardo Alonso, alerted the UFC of Maia’s condition late Wednesday night.

Maia was set to face Mike Pyle at UFC Fight Night Tulsa, but was forced to withdraw due to a staph infection. He was admitted into the hospital on Tuesday night after his condition continued to decline, and he was released on Friday. He has been prescribed antibiotics for the next six weeks, after which his condition will be reassessed.

We wish Demian Maia the speediest recovery and we hope to see him healthy and back in the octagon very soon.
