Dave Herman Passes Drug Test, Is Cleared for UFC 162
By Christopher Murphy @MurphMMA
UFC heavyweight fighter Dave Herman has passed a mandatory pre-fight drug test through the Nevada Athletic Commission, clearing him for his UFC 162 bout with Gabriel Gonzaga this Saturday.
MMAjunkie.com confirmed with the commission’s director, Keith Kizer, that Herman passed a 10-part test for a number of banned substances including marijuana, a drug for which Herman has tested positive twice before.
Following his second positive test for marijuana, the UFC suspended the heavyweight fighter for six months and ordered that he complete a rehabilitation program and pass a drug test before competing again- criteria that Herman completed in April.
Kizer stated that any marijuana in Herman’s system would have warranted his removal from the fight card.
With the suspension out of the way, Herman is looking at what is likely a must-win fight. He is coming into the bout with Gonzaga having lost his last three fights. Gonzaga is also coming off a loss, but had secured three straight submission victories prior to that fight.
Herman and Gonzaga are set to face off in Saturday’s preliminary fights that are set to air on FX beginning at 5pm/8pm PT/ET.
