Daniel Cormier: If Jon Jones Moves Up To Heavyweight, He Gets Beat Up By Cain Velasquez

UFC fans, fighters and pundits alike have long discussed the ever-elusive “Super Fight”. Whether it was GSP vs. Anderson, Fedor vs. Randy, Wanderlei vs. Liddell or any of the other fantasy match ups, people love to debate about who the assumed winners and losers would be of these pound-for-pound battles.

Most recently, a lot of attention has been given to the (possibly inevitable) clash of heavyweight and light heavyweight champions, Cain Velasquez and Jon “Bones” Jones. It seems that – once he’s done cleaning out his division – Jones plans on moving up a weight class to challenge himself against the biggest, baddest men on planet earth; a weight class ruled by a heavyweight with a seemingly endless gas tank and a penchant for embarrassing his opponents.

And while the fight would surely polarize the fans as to who would win and who would taste defeat, one particular fighter seems to know exactly what would happen: Cain’s American Kickboxing Academy stablemate, Daniel Cormier.

If he (Jones) wants to go up to heavyweight, then he can go up there and get beat up by Cain. That’s the only thing that’s going to happen. There will never be a two belt type of thing because I don’t think any of these guys will beat Velasquez.”

Sure, he might be just a tad bit bias.

But no matter what Jones decides to do in the future, he is more than likely focusing all of his attention on defeating his upcoming opponent, the dangerous Chuck Liddell protégé, Glover Teixeria. A win over the power puncher would be his seventh straight title defense; a staggering number in a weight class that usually sees its belt change hands like a game of hot potato.

And if Jones does defeat Teixeria? Cormier might get his chance to show Velasquez “how it’s done”, as he could easily wind up challenging Jones for his strap in the near future.

Time will tell.
