Dana White Wants TRT Exemptions Gone, But O.K. With Belfort’s Use In Title Fight

It seems that UFC President Dana White is easing up a little bit on the highly controversial use of testosterone replacement therapy (TRT). However, it appears that his recent lightened view is less about his own personal opinion and more about the shear regulations regarding the subject.

It’s no secret that Dana and Vitor have butted heads over TRT use in the past and in recent news alike, however, in a recent media scrum held on Thursday it appears that Dana is taking a more political view of TRT and not letting his personal views get in the way.

“Of course (Vitor should be able to compete while using TRT). It’s absolutely legal. He can apply for (testosterone use exemption (TUE). (Vitor has) had these exemptions. He’s been able to use it. He’s going to apply for it and if they say ‘No’ then he’s going to have to fight without using it. It’s as simple as that.”

Vitor is set to face off against UFC middleweight champion Chris Weidman in an attempt to strip him of his crown at UFC 173 in Vegas. However, Vitor will need an TUE in order to continue his treatment leading up to the bout. This becomes an issue because Vitor was popped back in 2006 during a PRIDE event for having an overage of testosterone in his system. And with a policy of not allowing TUE for those who have shown discrepancy in the past it’s likely that Vitor will have to be clean when heading into this bout.

And though Dana hasn’t been his usual harsh self recently regarding this subject he still holds strong to his belief that the NSAC should simply do away completely with the allowance of TRT.

“I’ve been saying it forever. I think (TRT) should go away. It should go away. Make everything easy. Make everything fair. Nobody will have to say, ‘Well, this guy gets to.’ It’ll be gone. Then we don’t have to talk about it, worry about it, hear about is or think about it.”

Well put Mr. President.

So, what do you guys think out there in Penn Nation? Should TRT simply be done away with to stop all this non sense? Would Vitor be the same vicious fighter we’ve been seeing lately if he were forced to stop his TRT usage? Give us your thoughts!

TRT should be illegal. I don’t care why your body is not at its peak ….deal with it and adapt your game or retire.

I think TRT or any PED should be legal in mma and all sports for that matter. If used responsibly it can be a training supplement to help recover and build strength. The best fighters will be the ones that know how to use a PED perfectly and not abuse it.
