Dana White Thinks There Will Always Be Contenders For Jon Jones At Light-Heavyweight | UFC News

By Jamie McAllister
UFC President Dana White comments at the UFC on Fox 4 press conference.

March 19, 2011 Jon Jones defeated Shogun Rua to claim the UFC Light-Heavyweight Title. Since then Jones has gone on to finish Rampage Jackson, Lyoto Machida and dominate former teammate Rashad Evans.

Jones next defends his title at UFC 151 against Dan Henderson and with a victory it looks like he could be facing a former opponent. UFC President Dana White earlier this week announced that whoever impresses most in the UFC On FOX 4 headlining bouts will claim a title shot. The main event features Brandon Vera and Shogun Rua, Jones has already finished and dominated both fighters. Lyoto Machida and Ryan Bader are also in with a chance of a title shot, Jones has also defeated and finished both fighters.

It could be argued that the Light-Heavyweight division is running low on contenders but UFC President Dana White does not think so.

“That is what we have been saying about Anderson Silva since 2006. There’s always contenders, there’s always a new guy. It’s up to these guys on Saturday night. They have to go in there and they have to deliver. You know how it is, you know how this is. Every time somebody says that one of these fights is off the charts on Saturday. I mean, “Shogun” Rua had the fight of the year last year, it was a war against Dan Henderson who is now fighting “Bones” Jones for the title. How quickly we forget everybody, we will see what happens on Saturday. Again, don’t judge fights until they happen. And you know, if it sucks on Saturday, I will be the first one standing up here and letting you know.”

  1. DjGonz says:

ALEXANDER GUSTAFSSON Is Gonna Be Jones Biggest Challenge He Should Be Next In Line!!! #WarBJ

  2. Keep Fitch (Forever) says:

I doubt it. Even if there are its not like they have big names like rashad, machida, shogun, or Rampage. Rampage sucks as a fighter but even he holds bigger name then the possible uppercoming contenders.

    • Steve B says:

Rampage is only a name because of the Arona fight imo. If W.Silva destroyed him twice and there was no powerbomb Rampage would have faded into obscurity way before the UFC.

  3. Keep Fitch (Forever) says:

Fitch should move up and grind this fool out.

  4. Penn Jillette says:

Your mom should grind on him

  5. 757 says:

Stop saying stupid stuff like that. Without knowing people or what they have going on in their life that is just a stupid thing to say. Don’t get carried away saying things about somebody’s mother. Stick to the comments about fighting. You sound like a little kid with a new toy computer talking like that. Stick to the fighting.

  6. Suck fitch off (forever) says:

Shogun will get the next shot

  7. punchkick says:

Chael should move up and try to challenge fighters there.
light heavyweight division is too quiet

  8. Wrestler66 says:

In future I can see Glover and Gustaffsson getting shots and getting enough hype behind fights and getting peoe believing they have a chance of beating Jones as they have not been beat yet. If Shogun crushes Vera and with some savvy marketing a rematch with Shogun makes sense …..

Other than that I can’t see anyone else coming through the pack of contenders who have already tried and failed …. But you never know there could be a guy tearing it up not even in UFC yet

  9. Drew says:

No disrespect to any of the following fighters… Shogun is to small compared to jones reach… Vera will get eatn again… A relentless bader who doesn’t ***** out probably won’t win but make it a battle… Machida showed he can stand with jones but I got choked out standing up… Gusta would go all 5 and maybe make it a close one. I could see gusta making close and get a rematch… Bones vs Jds is the actual dream fight of today IMO. Other then that pure business reasons is why Dana is saying jones will always have contenders.

  10. Sugar Ponybear says:

There will always be challengers, cause Jones isn’t the next Silva. He will lose, guarantee.

  11. STRAIGHTPUNCHES! says:

JONES VS SILVA IS THE DREAM FIGHT
