Dana White Says Nick Diaz “Wants to Fight”
| Although this past weekend’s news of Chris Weidman dethroning Anderson Silva to become the new UFC Middleweight Champion has understandably spilled over and flooded MMA news sites across the web there have been a couple other intriguing stories that have risen from the rubble of UFC 162, including news that UFC badboy Nick Diaz has apparently told company president Dana White that he is ready for a return to fighting.
During a media scrum with White following the UFC 162 post-fight presser he explained that he did receive a text massage from the Stockton Kid and the news was uplifting for fight fans and followers of Nick Diaz. Here is what White said during the scrum:
“He texted me that he broke up with his girlfriend and he wants to fight,” White told media members at the UFC 162 post-fight media scrum.
It was also made public that Diaz posted a message on his official Instagram account stating that he desired to fight the winner of the UFC 162 middleweight title fight. However, that doesn’t really seem to make much sense at this point in time, but the text message that White received seems to be a legitimate call for employment from the former Strikeforce Champ.
Diaz has not competed since losing his UFC welterweight title fight to George St. Pierre about four months ago. That marked Diaz’s second lose in a row in the UFC, the first coming at the hands of Carlos Condit prior to that. Diaz last notched a win on his record when he put on a stellar performance in Seattle to take home a decision victory over BJ Penn in October of 2011.
Diaz, following his loss to GSP, made it clear that he was unsure if he wanted to continue fighting as it was taking a huge toll on his body and mind after years and years of competition and fight camps. Now, it seems that we may get a chance to see Diaz return to the famed octagon to but his badboy antics back on display and work toward getting himself back to the top of the MMA world.
So with the news of Diaz wanting to return to fighting what do you all here at BJPenn.com think would be an exciting match-up for Diaz in his return? It is still unclear whether Diaz will return at welterweight or middleweight but there are several great potential fights waiting at either weight class for him. What do you think, Penn Nation? Sound off on the return of Nick Diaz!
