Dana White Says Anderson Silva Might Be Next For Georges St Pierre, Not Johny Hendricks

UFC President Dana White announced at Thursday’s UFC on Fox 7 media day that he would be calling welterweight champ Georges St Pierre to discuss what is next for him. After giving him time to heal after his UFC 158 victory over Nick Diaz in March, White is eager to speak with St Pierre about who he would like to face next.

It was widely believed that Georges St Pierre would be fighting number one contender Johny Hendricks next, and a cross-division superfight with Anderson Silva would be put on hold. However, Dana White told the media today that he would have no qualms about St Pierre facing Silva next, if that’s what the Canadian wanted:

“Maybe he wants to fight Anderson if Anderson wins. If Georges says to me, ‘I want to fight Anderson Silva,’ you think I’m going to go, ‘No you’re not – you’re fighting Johny Hendricks. We’ll talk about that later’? He’d still be [welterweight champion]. He could go [back] down to fight Hendricks for the title.”

It is worth noting that whatever St Pierre decides, a fight with Silva would need to be put on hold as he is already scheduled to fight number one middleweight contender Chris Weidman at UFC 162 in July.

Furthermore, it has also been rumored that a superfight between Anderson Silva and light-heavyweight champion Jon Jones could be in the works for a 20th anniversary show at Madison Square Garden. When asked about the possibility, White didn’t give a clear yes or no. “It’s a good problem to have”, he jokingly responded when asked if he would rather have a Silva-GSP or Silva-Jones superfight.

  2. KIDD433 says:

Dana needs to get over this super fight already. It ain’t gonna happen.GSP wants nothing to do with The Spider. He’s scared to death of getting beat down an humiliated. It couldn’t be anymore obvious.

    • Gargoyle Wrestling says:

Just like Silva is scared shitless to fight Jones? Right?

      • ssjin4vegeta says:

Gargoyle, you better get your facts straight, in a live interview that you can go look up on youtube, Andy said he would fight Jones or GSP, and said it more then once in that same interview. Jones stated early on that he wouldn’t want to fight Anderson because he would not want to give Andy his first lost in the ufc and yes the Spider herd and responded fast saying he would indeed like to fight Jones and GSP for super fights! Look it up bro!

        • 123 says:

how come hes only calling GSP out, he knows Jon Jones will be at heavyweight soon.. he doesnt want to fight him its obvious.. Gargoyle Wrestling is..

  3. 123 says:

    +1.. spot on.

  4. KIDD433 says:

Thats funny because Silva stated recently that he’s open to fight GSP or Jones”which ever the UFC wanted.”But there u go hating on real fighters again.

    • Gargoyle Wrestling says:

Hypocrite, calling me out for calling Silva out to you. What did you just do above with GSP? Is that love or hate on a REAL fighter??? Dude at least be consistent. Your bias is outstanding!!

  5. Broman says:

Ben Henderson vs GSP is more intriguing to me than Silva vs GSP. That’s just me though, I think these two are closer to eachother when it comes to body type/size. Silva vs Jones is the king of super fights though

  6. wormy38 says:

Gsp would beat silva by laynpray like he wins all his fights and condit outworked hendrix from the bottem.all hendrix did was lay n pray

    • Gargoyle Wrestling says:

Are you crazy?? Squirming and throwing your arms around ISN’T working from the bottom? How about get your poossie ass up from being controlled??

  7. MaC-MaN says:

Silva can say he wants to fight Bruce Lee, it doesn’t mean that shit will happen. Talk is cheap, shut up and do it or just say not intrested

  8. Sean says:

Dana knows gsp is on his way out and is trying to milk him for every dime he can. He’s trying to get him to lose to silva before he loses his belt to Hendricks. Hendricks deserves the shot and Dana is a dick for even making this statement.

    • Gargoyle Wrestling says:

I see you know nothing, GSP has made more money for the UFC than anybody!! PERIOD! Silva is a money let down. The UFC wants Silva gone. They can’t wait for him to be beat up and lose. They will have a party when that happens.

  9. dvs dave says:

Its a fair fight anyway you look at it bj fought lyoto in training you fight bigger not saying mighty should fight hunt but these guys weights dont make that much of a difference as long as 1 of them is fighting anderson.

  10. Ddddddd says:

Ok already this shits getting on my nerves. There’s a lot to this as far as I’m concerned with these different fights that are all supposed to be super. Anderson and Johnny’s having the same issues with finding contenders although I know Weidmans legit but if Sylva does win,is the only way any of this matters. Johnny and Anderson are in the same boat and both having a hard time catching a keeper. Goerges is in one of the best weight classes as far as these guys could all beat each other on any givin day. I do not see the relevance of a catch weight fight when your performing in a gap that really doesn’t exist. This undermines one of the only things that made this more organized and based on technique and not just opportunity. You want to impress me with a pound for pound? Have no weight limit old school style. What happened to two devision champs? If you want to fight Goerges or call him out, your full of shit if you can’t way 70.
If you want to fight Johnny then challenge him for his belt or don’t. Anderson’s pay day would be better in general if he wouldn’t have pissed so many people off with some of his performances. Like it or not he had a string of fights that sucked and I believe to this day, effects his pay for view numbers in the 25 to 40 year olds. Goerges might be boring to some but he is as consistent as a Swiss watch and there’s a comfort level in spending 65$ there. There’s just too much science involved at this point as far as what weight class your at your best in. Pound for pound is bullshit look what happened when Royce reemerged. This sport is geared differently now and pound for pound is only relevant with no rules to interfere with the way a little guy and his particular art or style could truly beat a bigger guy. Anderson wouldn’t need to worry so much about a pay day if he would have been consistent in his performances and to me that’s what makes this even a little undeserved.

    • Gargoyle Wrestling says:

You seem to be ONE OF THE FEW unbiased critics on this site and see it how it is. Silva lost me as fan by acting like a bitch in some of his fights. A disrespectful little baby. There IS NO WAY a douche like that will ever be known as the best. He couldn’t even clean Royces toilet he is so far from being the best. The Best DON’T act like he does!!! FUKCIN PERIOD.

    • Raven Blaze says:

U really think GSP is Consistent? lol He does the same shit an never finishes a fight. Anderson Silva mixes shit up an wins by submission and tko that’s consistent. Moving up in weight class is consistent. Being undefeated in the ufc is consistent. U take away rules an no 1 will watch the ufc its like boxing it had to evolve if u can’t deal with that then please stop watching mma
