Dana White plans on never doing business with Randy Couture again, and he’s happy about it!

It was recently reported that the UFC Hall of Famer Randy Couture signed on to coach for the Bellator Fighting Championships’ new reality show that will be featured on Spike TV. At the UFC 156 media day Dana White made it clear he was not surprised, and said Couture isn’t what he seems. He thinks the real Randy Couture doesn’t match his public persona.

“Randy Couture comes off as the greatest guy in the world, Captain America. He’s the furthest thing from it, and I’m happy to not be in business with him anymore,” said White during the UFC 156 media day on Thursday. “Now I don’t have to be in business with him ever again.”

The UFC President’s comments are surprising to most MMA fans, and me, but he maintains it will not be shocking at all to people who actually know Randy Couture.

“99.9 percent of the people, that won’t be shocking at all, people that actually know him, not people who watch him on TV,” said White.

Randy Couture is one of the most loved MMA fighters in history and is a former two-division UFC champion. Only he and BJ Penn have ever accomplished that feat in the UFC. Couture holds the record for most championship fights in the UFC history with 15 title bouts.

Randy Couture is a legend in MMA, but Dana White says he didn’t get to know the “real” Couture until 2007. On October 11, 2007, Couture up and left the UFC, which lead the two sides into a legal dispute. Couture essentially lost the court battle and returned to the UFC in 2008.

“When that whole lawsuit went down, when he lied about his numbers, and lied about a lot of things, went into court and it didn’t work out for him, I’d say that’s when I really got to know him,” said the UFC president.

Whether or not we know the “real” Randy Couture would probably change depending on whom you talk to, but everyone can agree that Randy Couture is a legend in MMA. Whoever ends up on Couture’s team in the new Bellator reality show will definitely improve and learn from one of the best. A press conference is scheduled next week to announce Couture’s partnership with Spike TV and Bellator.

  1. Big J says:

Dana is losing credibility in my eyes; the guy is starting to become a big baby and takes “business” so personally. Everytime a fighter voices their opinion or makes a business decision that extends outside of the ufc, Dana is there quick to insult the individual. He thinks he is the only one these guys can do business with. He seems like a little bit of a control freak and when things don’t go his way, he cries, complains, and tries his very hardest to bring down the character of the person who decides to do business elsewhere. Grow up, Dana, show some class and don’t let your roid rage get the best of your level of professionalism.

    • D-Game says:

      I agree 100%

    • Al says:

      Agreed also

    • Dee says:

      Well said.

    • Yes sir says:

this was so well said that there is no need for other comments

    • BT says:

Pretty biased comments; telling Dana to fight these guys?? Really?? Business disputes aren’t (and rightfully so) settled by a fight. The immaturity of comments like this is astounding.

It’s not unbelievable for Randy to not live up to his public persona. To be fair how much do we really know about him from UFC shows/events?

Dana is a dick for trashing the guy publicly, but its not like Randy hasn’t made similar statements.

The UFC has done more for any one fighter than the reverse. I know its “cool” to say they take advantage of the fighters and how the UFC’s piece of the pie is too large. Bottom line, look at how Bellator is screwing Alvarez. I personally know several people screwed by people on the local circuit. The list of athletes screwed by other sports organizations is gargantuan compared to the UFC.

This sport was going to die or go underground, which is the same thing, until the F brothers bought it. This sport is in its infancy. How do you think pro football players were treated during the first 2 decades of their sport? Look how ALI was treated later in his career.

But I’m sure the people who troll bjpenn.com have it figured out. Nobody is an econ major I guess.

Bottom line, this is a business.

sorry if dup post, this site is weird now

        Hey BT,
Who is telling Dana White to fight these guys??

I think the point these guys are trying to make is Dana should act with better class, rather than bashing fighters, just because they decide to do business with another organization. You’re right, Dana has done a lot for the fighters and the organization, but without the fighters, Dana has no organization. It is a mutual partnership!

It is refreshing to see someone act with gratitude towards their employees and vice versa, fighters who appreciate their boss for giving them the opportunity.

Bottom line is this, I think fans are disappointed at Dana’s comments towards Randy; rather than wishing him the best and showing Randy some gratitude for what he has done for the organization, he goes on a rampage to bad mouth him and close the doors on him completely, just because he is taking a job that probably suits his needs, and one that the UFC didn’t offer him.

The question is this, why couldn’t Dana keep his mouth shut about Randy’s business decision? Why did he have to “go on the record” bad mouthing him? I guess Dana only knows the answer to this. I can say this, though, it obviously wasn’t a good PR move for him, look at the responses he got out of the fans….

  2. daniel says:

the ufc is turning into a monopoly , they want to take over all the mma sport, and dana white is becoming kind of a dictator of the sport, dont give me wrong i love the ufc i love they have done with the sport, but it would b interesting too to have other promotions.

  3. aintno1special says:

Seems to me like Dana White is the only guy on this planet that doesn’t seem to have any issues. P**s him off and he’ll cut you from the UFC. Refuse to kiss his a** and you are one of the hardest people to deal with. I give him a lot of credit for what he has done for MMA, but in my opinion he is beginning to make a circus out of the profession and is treading very close to becoming a tyrannical dictator.

  4. Bob Mulholland says:

I want to go back to 1993 when UFC was fun. Dana White shouldn’t air dirty laundry whether it’s true or not. It’s just unprofessional.

  5. buns says:

    Randy owes everything to Dana.

    • aintno1special says:

So Dana gave Randy his talent? His resilience? His training dedication? Randy worked hard for all that Dana “gave him” and he rarely disappointed. Maybe Randy is a big a**hole, but at least he keeps it quiet. Everyone already knows Dana is.

    • SlipSlap says:

You have got to be kidding me. Randy and other pioneers of UFC made Dana what he is today. Dana is turning into a whiner. I used to support Dana, now this business has gone to his head. Ive lost all respect for him.

  6. Leroy says:

It is only a capitalist egomaniac that will say things like this about someone who previously made you a bucketload of cash. i would not blame all UFC fighters for pulling the rug out from under Whites feet and forming a better, newer format without the politics and ego stroking. Fedor was right not to taint his career record with this rubbish.

  7. Dave godfrey says:

Buns you got it the wrong way around no fighter owes Dana White anything Dana White has gotten extremely rich due solely to the fighters in the UFC so in fact Dana Whites owes everything to his fighters. Yes Dana has turned the UFC around but without the fighters there would be no UFC period! Dana White really needs a reality check in my opinion he is becoming a bit of a control freak like has already been stated cross him and your finished.

  8. Tom says:

Dana is certainly an arse…Why does he always run his yapper like this…

  9. rawdawgbob says:

Dana seems like a bit of a cry baby. I wish there was another company with endless pockets that could put on a good show. Live and let live Dana you cry baby.

  10. D-Rock says:

Id have to agree with the majority here. Dana is making the UFC too commercialized. Hes gives fights to people who dont deserve them in order for profitable gain and s**** on fighters who have the balls to stand up to him for whatever reason. The ufc is going downhill and fast. Btw, has anybody been watching bellator lately? They fight like people in the ufc used to, with heart. I will gladly watch Couture become a part of bellator.

  11. Ulysse says:

Dana think he’s the superman of MMA and everybody owe him blind loyalty even when they are not in his company anymore. And this loyalty must be prioritize over one’s freedom of opinion or of choice. That is just bullshit.
When will he step-up in a cage and face his protagonists (Frank Shamrock, Rampage and now Randy) like a true leader should ?

  12. confucius says:

agreed. too commercialized indeed. its mixed martial arts not NFL. i still have a hard time watching Karyn Bryant or curt menefee try to talk MMA. It just feels fake

  13. Ulysse says:

Dana think he is the superman of MMA and everyone who is in this community owe loyalty to him or else you are a small little shit pickle. And this loyalty must be prioritized over one’s freedom of opinion / of choice. If Randy thinks he must help Bellator install competition between them and the UFC what’s the problem ?
So Dana, just close your mouth and step up in the cage with your protagonists (Frank Shamrock, Rampage and now Randy).

  14. Eikane says:

    Couture is a MMA Legend
    That’s it
Doesn’t make him a good person
He likes to hunt, it is his right
Putting the picture of the animal you just killed for fun, makes my kids cry like you misrespect the living nature !
    I am not impressed !

  15. D says:

    Well said Big J… I couldn’t agree more….

  16. dana_white says:

so all you people that have issues with dana white and calling the UFC a “monopoly” you guys gonna stop watching the UFC then?

  17. Kejobas witness says:

Dana is a dirty douche. If he didnt like the “real” Randy then why only show that attitude now when Randy signs with another organisation? Man like hes the only one allowed to get rich off of MMA. If he sed well Randy is a retired fighter and doing what he needs to do to earn his money amd hey he still gets to b a part oc the aport he loves amd helped build so why not, i would have loved dana, but alas, hes a ****

  18. wells says:

yes Dana did alot for the idc and I agree to what everybody is saying the fighters of the idc did make Dana white I don’t see Dana going out there and getting busted up and banged around no he sits in a suit and watches the guys best the hell out of each other so randy u r the man keep doing what ur doing Dana grow the hell up and quit being a bitch

  19. Slim Charles says:

I can understand some people say Dana is being a baby but then again the UFC as a company did a lot for Randy Couture. They were the platform in which he got famous for mma, which led to have a clothing line and gym and now other jobs such as acting. So yeah I can understand why Dana feels betrayed.

1 day Dana’s gona talk shit about someone on camera n they’l take his roided round head to court n sue him for defamation of character, if my boss/ex boss started talking shit about me that is just ‘his opinion’ and give no facts or proof then I would!
