Dana White on Ronda Rousey’s debut: “She blows him (Lesnar) out of the water”

UFC President has been gushing over Ronda Rousey for weeks now. Just ask him about her, he will tell you how talented she is and how she is the face of women’s MMA. He will also tell you how she is getting more media attention than any other fighter in the history of the UFC, even WWE cross-over Brock Lesnar.

White was asked if comparing the media frenzy for Lesnar’s debut was a fair comparison to the current craze over Rousey’s, he gave a simple answer; “No.” He continued, “She (Rousey) blows him (Lesnar) out of the water.” That is amazing when you consider that when Lesnar made the transition from WWE to MMA there was doubt by some if he could even fight. Remember, when he made his debut in the UFC he had fought just one time professionally. He was a huge name because of his WWE days, where he was considered a superstar of the sports entertainment world.

Rousey on the other hand has been fighting professionally for just under two years. She is undefeated and has won every fight in the same fashion; 1st round arm-bar submission. Before her debut in the UFC she has already solidified herself as one of the top female fighters in the world. Rousey is the reason there is women’s MMA in the UFC, and the fact the first fight is the Main Event speaks even more to her ability to sell fights.

“No fighter has ever fought in the UFC that has had more attention than she has…it’s a fact,” said White. “Honestly going into this thing I didn’t know that that would happen. That HBO and Time magazine and all these other outlets that never cover us would, I didn’t see that happening. And if they did, I didn’t think it would be positive.”

It has been positive, and it has given exposure to not just the growing sport of MMA, but especially to the women of MMA.

Ronda Rousey and Liz Carmouche will debut the new UFC Women’s Bantamweight division when they fight for the title at UFC 157 on February 23rd.

23 Comments to Dana White on Ronda Rousey’s debut: “She blows him (Lesnar) out of the water”

  1. Bobby says:

Dana white needs to shut the **** up about her already, i hope she loses so dana can stop talking about her like she’s the female anderson silva

    • magoo says:

No doubt he’s all giddy like a teenager with his first crush. I hope Rousey gets ktfo, then she can call off the face of the earth! You don’t get it Dana no one gives a flying fukc about Rousey or woman fighting in the UFC were all sick of hearing about your new cash cow wench!

  2. Kingron84 says:

I don’t know if you can base the Rousey factor off this PPV. After all most of the people I talk to are getting this for Henderson vs Machida and not Rousey.

  3. The natural says:

Nobody gives a shit it was hard watching her fight free on showtime. Now there giving here a gimme opponent to keep her were she’s at. If it wasn’t for Henderson and maybe one or two other fights on card nobody would order this bs.
Everybody watch it on livestream for free or go to ur fav web site for live results. Save ur money so this tobackle never happens again. What a waste of a headliner

  4. TheTude says:

Nobody would buy this PPV event it wasnt for Hendo V. Machida

    • Mike says:

      No kidding!

SO sick of hearing about her. No one REALLY cares about women MMA besides women, the media and Dana’s pocket book.

He will quickly realize how much no one cares with PPV stats.

      • Juggernaut says:

Actually, a lot of male fighters care about WMMA. My teammates and myself all appreciate a good fight whether it is fought by men or women. So actually you are wrong. If you bothered to watch Invicta at all you would know that there is actually a demand for WMMA. So maybe it isnt that no one really cares about WMMA and maybe its more that you are just sexist…

  5. Scotty says:

I think the people buying this ppv are actually going to buy it, hoping to see Rousey lose.. I mean there is some other good fights i want to see but i also want to watch Liz smash Rousey and spit in Dana’s face for thinking he was going to give Rousey a gimme fight.. Might not happen but i think alot of people are going to buy for that reason alone..

  6. Dana is fuckin up says:

It’s not that I don’t like rousey. It’s the ****in people and Dana and all this dumb hype about her. We all had enough of it. It got annoying a long time ago. People are talking like she’s the greatest. Like they know her career and fighting style so well when all they really know its the highlights and what other people say. I’m sorry but I’m a big mma fan and 6-0 it’s not impressive. A lot of fighters have 6-0 and better in their career and its no big deal. I think women potential is not as great as men on this sport so you don’t see a lot of great women fighters. So the odds of catching someone at that level with an arm bar as more likely. Specially when that’s all you’re focusing on doing. If you watch her fights she’s never so dominant or impressive. It’s never one sided fight. I dont know. It’s just not fair that she gets 95% of the attention and Liz gets only 5%. When they are both fighting for the championship. Plus media and Dana and all the halftime dumb fans ( and I say dumb because of their nonsense comments online ) don’t give any attention to the real food fights (lyoto vs Henderson). It’s all bullshit. So because of that I hope rousey loses so this madness stops. Nothing against her directly.

  7. Big Daddy says:

The only reason I was looking forward to seeing Rousey in the UFC was for a possible matchup for cyborg. Cyborg is practically a woman with a penis and Rousey being at such a high level could of been an interesting matchup. Rousey would have a better fan base if she just met cyborg at 140. Titles don’t mean shit when there is lack of opponents.

  8. Rodriguez says:

It makes sense for him to bring women to the UFC, to get that fan base. What doesn’t make sense is him firing fitch and getting ready to fire 100 other guys, just to pay Rousey. The woman is only 6-0, and only gets media attention because Dana is buying it for her. He is making a mistake cutting all these other fighters, and it’s going to come back and bite him in the ass…and as a future military man…I’m going for Marine Vetrine Carmouche! Cause she is a real woman’s fighter!

  9. insane says:

I would bet a million dollars that dana is secretly ****ing rhonda. That explains why he is up her shit so much, it’s annoying as hell.

  10. mike eib says:

all i read was “she blows him”

  11. Ainokea says:

I honestly don’t know who go for… the Tomboy Barbie with the MOLE under her eye, or the short lickalottapuss who looks like Urijah Faber

  12. UFC 84 Forever says:

Well she certainly does blow; that’s exactly how she got here, a whole bunch of knob slobberin’ for Uncle Dana…

Might have talent and all, but it’s pretty clear she’s been slipping the boss some “incentive”.

  13. confucius says:

any woman that does something dominated by men will get over hyped. its just like chicks trying to DJ. if shes hot or has a gimmick people are all about it. Since ronda seems to be a one trick pony that goes to show how shallow womens MMA is at the moment. Name one guy in the UFC anybody gives a shit about thats a one trick pony? Sure shes prob a great athlete but i look at it like the WNBA. I know it exists but do i really give a crap? Majority dont care to see women fight. In a world about “entertaining the fans” as dana has made it apparent its all he cares about chicks better learn how to knock eachother out real quick. Otherwise its back to teaching you a go !

    • UFC 84 Forever says:

I never did enjoy watching women fight, it’s not a comment on their ability, heart, or anything like that, it simply just isn’t for me.

With boxing, even in the WWE many moons ago when I was just a boy, it just never appealed to me…

  14. slim says:

she dosent blow lesnar out of the water, and the PPV numbers will show this

    WHAT A JOKE

  15. 123 says:

liz carmouche will tko her & dana white will be gutted.. hope ronda rousey wins though shes HOT
