Dana White on Possible Renzo Gracie Return: ‘I have to ask why’
Renzo Gracie, 46, recently stated his intention to return to the Octagon and fight under the UFC banner. That talk left UFC President Dana White wanting to talk with Renzo and ask the legend of the sport why.

Renzo Gracie is looking at another comeback in the sport of mixed martial arts, leaving UFC President Dana White scratching his head.
Gracie (13-7-1, 1 NC) made a similar return to action over three years ago when he signed a six-fight contract with the UFC in 2010. In April of that year, at UFC 112 Gracie fought for the first time since 2007. He suffered a third-round TKO loss to UFC veteran, Matt Hughes. Dana White still remembers this fight, and at a UFC 168 media event, he expressed his concern over Gracie’s possible return.
“I mean, he lost badly to Matt Hughes, who was at the end of his career too.
“I have to ask Renzo Gracie why. Renzo, you’ve been around forever, you’ve accomplished so many things. You have the respect of the entire combat world in every country. I just don’t know why he wants to come back at his age and fight again.”
Of course, Gracie seems determined to get into the Octagon, and he said on “The MMA Hour” some weeks ago that he has already begun training full-time.
“Believe it, there’s nothing that I want to do more than to be back in the cage, to be back fighting. I just love doing that. Life has been pushing me everywhere but in that direction, but now I’m getting so tired and frustrated with everything else that I’m going to just bury myself into a mat and train the whole day, and do what I love, which is training and fighting. For sure, I’ll be fighting again… I’m looking to be in top shape in three or four months from now, and from there I’ll set up a date.”
Though Gracie still has a few months before he would be ready to set up a fight with the UFC, it seems he may already have his first opponent in a skeptical Dana White the man he will need to convince to give him another shot.
