Dana White Offers Nick Diaz Shot At Middleweight Against Lyoto Machida

UFC President Dana White revealed yesterday during a special Q&A in Boston that he has offered former welterweight title challenger Nick Diaz a fight against former light-heavyweight champion Lyoto Machida.

Not a bad idea is it?

“I talked to Diaz today, and I made him an offer, so we’ll see what happens,” White said yesterday at the Boston Barrio Cantina. “He had been talking about going to 185 pounds. Machida has been talking about going to 185 pounds. So we wanted to see if he wanted to fight Machida at 185.”

As of yesterday it was rumored that the fight to make was Belfort vs. Machida, however White went on to explain the shift in planning.

“I wanted Machida to fight Vitor Belfort, but Vitor Belfort is his own matchmaker, apparently. He wants to make his own fights.”

According to Dana White the Diaz camp has not turned down the fight offer. They haven’t accepted it either, but if Nick Diaz wanted an intriguing match to draw him out of retirement this is surely it.

Shit, talk about a strike and biker.

  2. Silver Spider says:

Dana must have liked Condit vs Diaz, because that is what’s going to happen if Machida fights Diaz! Give Diaz Matt Brown or Martin Kampmann after Condit. I’d rather see Diaz vs Macdonald as well

  3. Newland says:

Maybe we will see an actual good fight since Diaz will push him to fight.. Diaz by KO or decision

  4. Aaron says:

I like this match-up a lot! I think it also says a lot for the strained relationship between Diaz and Dana White that he offered the fight in the first place. He could have overlooked it entirely, but instead Diaz and Machida both have the chance to restate their names in MMA, and to put together a good show for true MMA fans.

  5. Drew says:

I mean that is a “wow” fight bottom line, diaz just talkn mad shit to machida after the first round haha. Diazs cardio will be hell of a factor. His pure boxing will beat the “karate” guy

  6. Brian Bonell says:

ya, I totally want to see another fight like Diaz/Condit…

  7. Maybe this is Dana's way says:

…of cutting Machida from the UFC AND getting Diaz BACK into the UFC (since his “retirement”).
If Machida continues to fight the way he has been lately and loses again, Dana will have him follow Fitch out of the UFC.
Machida, 3-4 in his last seven with two wins over fighters nearing AARP status, has been receiving more criticism than praise. He himself is 35 years old. I think Machida’s UFC career is drawing to a close.

    • Gargoyle Wrestling says:

You are right. Machida’s days are numbered. This is inevitable. Machida loses his next fight, He’s cut. Never been a big PPV fighter and the UFC needs to cull the herd in its higher paid ranks. Machida is a prime candidate next. good riddance

  8. Dude says:

Been waiting on the UFC to start making these match ups. As a fight fan this is exciting, hopefully more fighters will jump weight to show off their fighting skill

    • It's more like says:

changing weight class because your skills aren’t winning you fights in your previous weight class. For the most part anyway. There are a couple of exceptions, though.

  9. 757 says:

Dana is trying to make bad fights for Diaz. I think Machida sucks these days but the person who suggested that it would be like Condit vs Diaz is correct. DW is an asshole to certain fighters and kisses ass on others….period

    • Steve says:

Pressure fighter vs counterstriker match-ups always deliver great fights. I see Nick taking this one by decision.but i can’t fully disagree with You 757 but dont forget Lyotto was the first guy to tag Jones and hurt him.Lyotto is just a very unorthodox style fighter. darting in and out and mostly countering his opponent.but he’s def not the same anymore as he was before he had the LHW belt.

  10. Steve says:

I hope he accepts. I just want to see him fight again. Skrap pack fan 4 life. Respect for Lyotto as well. He is a great fighter and nice guy. I can not totally disagree with 757. but I still believe Lyotto is in the top 10 in the world in his division. He was the first one that could really tag Jones and hurt him so he still got game bro.

  11. Steve says:

pressure fighter vs counterstriker. always make great fights.
