Dana White: Nick Diaz wanted to fight GSP in hotel following UFC 137 | UFC News

Today, while on Jim Rome’s nationally syndicated radio show, UFC President Dana White told listeners that the long-awaited grudge match between Georges St. Pierre and Nick Diaz almost happened in a hotel back in 2011.

According to Dana White, after Nick defeated B.J. Penn in the headliner of UFC 137 in Las Vegas, Diaz went looking for St. Pierre in the hotel after the event, seeking an impromptu brawl.

Here is what the UFC President told Jim Rome:

“There’s more to this story that hasn’t been told. Nobody has talked about this, I haven’t said anything about it, but at one of the fights, the one where he really started calling Georges out, he was chasing Georges around the hotel and like yelling at him and stuff. And Georges thought he was going to try to fight him at the hotel. He was just waiting for the elevator doors to open and there would be Nick Diaz. The last fight after he won his fight and was saying all those things in the ring about Georges, he was really messing with Georges bad at the fight and trying to fight him at the hotel. That really pissed Georges off.”

White told Rome the story shortly after discovering that Nick had failed to attend the UFC 158 open media workouts this morning.  The president was not impressed with Diaz’s no-show and stated that there will be repercussions if Diaz doesn’t show up for Thursday’s UFC 158 press conference.

Diaz is at the highest point of his career and is struggling to handle it emotionally. So if he doesn’t show, my guess he is cut for good. But I think he will show.

    • Mike B says:

Yup,I remember nick saying he hates all the attention and media he attracts when come fight time.He said it drives him crazy.he said that on the 137 countdown show. And he is at the pinnacle of his career right now and he’s messing it up,I know it’s probaly a lot of pressure and it’s probaly hard to deal with but it’s a part of the sport he should be use to it by now.Im just hoping nick gets his head right and and starts acting like a professional cause it will be a shame if he gets cut, cause I’m a huge nick fan.

    • Patrick Jenkins says:

This whole fight has been UFC money making machine at work and they are using media hype about Diaz being a bully to justify giving him a shot now because they know they made a mistake taking him out of the 137 fight. I’m not saying Diaz isn’t disrespectful but it wouldn’t the first time DW lied to us fans to make a buck and Nothing sells like good vs evil. Lets look at it is Diaz really that bad why because he speaks his mind and lets you know where he stands and is GSP really such a nice guy because he says what everyone wants to hear not necessarily what he really thinks. Even if GSP is furious he has shown he prefers to facilitate victory rather then to take the risk and go for the finish. That being said its a fight anything can happen could be an amazing and brutal fight but it also might be 5 rounds of GSP taking Diaz down and controlling and the most memorable thing about it being Diaz giving GSP the Finger and telling him to fight. Either way Diaz being cut is highly unlikely win or lose he is still around the top of the division.

The dudes wacked, Georges is right he deserves a beat down!

  3. GRT 3000 says:

I bet he was chasing George ‘after’ he had the ACL tear. Diving on a healthy, long-time UFC champion, and one of the best pound for pound fighters itw would only mean a major beatdown in a hotel. at least now he gets paid for the beatdown that looms.

it’s going to be rough – first he’ll get beatup, than he’ll make an ass of himself, then he’ll get fired. ouch!

  4. jon says:

when has diaz ever not turned up for a fight.. interviews maybe but he aint never doging fights the man will be there to put on a show against gsp and claim the belt. got respect for both fighters but diaz is the man outa the two in my opinion. DIAZ BRO’S BABY

  5. Donovan says:

Don’t know him, but Nick sounds like kind of an asshole, but the guy can really phuckin scrap!!

  6. Dan Jenkins says:

I love how recently Dana White was caught out bull****ing about mark hunt, has a habit of throwing fighters (employees) under the bus to save his skin and stupid people still hang on every word he says or maybe people are so blindly biased that they want to believe a liar and people think nick diaz is uneducated

  7. Erik says:

If this fight is like the last one, GSP is going to destroy Diaz. He did a lot of stand up last time and dominated. So Diaz, good luck, you’re damn sure going to need it. GSP is a beast and the champ for a reason.

  8. YoMama says:

Even if he never showed to any of these redundant press conferences, Diaz will still get more PPV buys than GSP and anyone else. He is the type of fighter the UFC needs to sustain interest.
