Dana White: “Mark Hunt Could Earn Title Shot With a KO of JDS” | UFC NEWS

Following the UFC 158 pre-fight press conference, UFC President Dana White told a group of reporters that Mark Hunt may not be too far from a shot at the heavyweight title.  “It’s crazy to say,” said White, “but if he knocks Junior Dos Santos out, how is this guy not next in line?”

Hunt is coming off an impressive victory over Stefan Struve in which he broke the Dutch fighter’s jaw with a left hook.  That was his fourth consecutive win following a shaky 6-fight losing streak including his fights in Pride and his UFC debut.  The drastic turn-around for Hunt has gathered the New Zealand fighter a lot of support from MMA fans worldwide.

His next fight will be against former UFC heavyweight champion, Junior Dos Santos, at UFC 160 on May 25 in Las Vegas, NV.  Dos Santos was slated to fight Alistair Overeem in a highly anticipated heavyweight showdown, but an injury forced Overeem to pull out of the fight.  There was some drama in finalizing the matchup, but White and Hunt were able to discuss some of Hunt’s disagreements and ultimately come to terms.  Hunt and JDs are set now to fight in what promises to be a heavy-hitting fight that many predict will not see all three rounds.

UFC 160 will be headlined by a rematch between Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva and current UFC heavyweight champion, Cain Velasquez.

Jds had haymakers but he couldnt ko country so he will have problems with hunts iron chin. You people dont know shyt about fighting if you think jds has better striking then hunt. Technique beats speed all the time even though i believe hunts faster as well. Hunt will win and i will bet anyone $5,000 on that fight. Leave your email for details. Hunt got this easy. Styles make fights and its a tough match up for jds. I will make a ton of money off of this simce hunts the under dog

  4. Not You says:

JDS will have a tough time here. Cain was able to keep him backing up and rocked him at will. Hunts ground game has come up in strides since his early fights. It will be a dynamite fight for sure though.
