Dana White Likes Velasquez vs Werdum On Super Bowl Card
Cain Velasquez successfully defended his UFC Heavyweight Championship against Junior dos Santos for a second time, in yet another dominant performance. Velasquez stood his ground and tried his hardest to knock his opponent out, but Dos Santos ate every single strike and showed true grit and determination. After a one sided fight that even the UFC President Dana White believes should have been stopped in the third round, Cain Velasquez further solidified his legacy as one of the best heavyweight to grace the octagon.
What’s next for the champion? At the UFC 166 post-fight press conference, Dana White stated he likes the idea of him defending the title against Fabricio Werdum at the Super Bowl card in New Jersey.
This wouldn’t be Fabricio Werdum’s first time scrapping at one of UFC’s Super Bowl Weekend cards. He made his UFC debut at UFC 143 which took place on February 4th, 2012. Werdum put on an impressive performance and it’s possible that if he was fighting anybody but Roy Nelson he would have knocked them out.
After his debut, Werdum went on to win two in a row against Mike Russow and Antônio Rodrigo Nogueira. With many of the UFC’s heavyweights already signed to fights, there are very few names left for Werdum to face other than Cain Velasquez.
If this fight gets finalized for UFC 169 they would be joining heavyweights Frank Mir and Alistair Overeem as confirmed fights for the card, making it an important night for the UFC Heavyweight Division.
