Dana White Likes Lyoto Machida vs. Vitor Belfort At Middleweight

Lyoto Machida needed all of three minutes to make a name for himself in the UFC Middleweight division. He may already have a title-contention fight lined up for him after such a successful 185 debut.

After refusing to move down to the middleweight division due to his friend and training partner Anderson Silva reigning supreme over all competition, the question remained whether Machida could cut it in that class. After Silva lost to Weidman, a number of possibilities presented themselves for Machida to make his 185 lb. debut.

Machida was originally lined up to debut against Tim Kennedy at UFC Fight for the Troops 3, but he was pulled out after it was announced Michael Bisping suffered a career-threatening injury. Machida would replace Bisping in the main-event of UFC Fight Night 30 against Mark Munoz.

Machida controlled the octagon well in his fight with Munoz, only having to throw two significant strikes before he connected with his headkick knockout. Munoz was out-cold, looking at the lights and not defending himself. Machida showed great sportsmanship by not following up with extra blows and let the referee call a stop to the fight.

At the UFC Fight Night 30 post fight press conference, Dana White stated that he loves the idea of Lyoto Machida going up against Vitor Belfort next.

Vitor Belfort is getting ready to fight Dan Henderson at UFC Fight Night 32 on November 9th. He is on a two fight winning streak, finishing both Michael Bisping and Luke Rockhold.

  1. Big daddy says:

It’s not fair for belfort. He should be next to challenge for the title.

    • squid says:

i agree. hes had two impressive headkick KO wins over two top MW contenders in Rockhold and Bisping … wtf UFC???

      • Sasquatch says:

Pretty obvious the UFC brass don’t like Vitor.. probably don’t want a known roider as Champ. I think Machida takes it in similar fashion as Anderson did and that’s why Dana likes the match up.

  2. KIDD433 says:

This is bullshit, Vitor has already earned his tittle shot by knocking out two top contenders back to back, but since the MW belt is tied up in this rematch, it just might have to happen

  3. 757 says:

Every time I start to agree with your statements Sas you ruin it. It’s TRT not roids. Most of the company use it so people need to get over it. Vitor has fought more and won more fights than most of the DANA boys and doesn’t get a shot. It’s BS and you know it.

    • Sasquatch says:

I’m not talking about TRT, I’m talking about his past steroid abuse he was busted for back in his Pride days (possibly the reason he needs TRT now?). IMO his image is tarnished and not what the UFC are looking for to represent.. that’s why Vitor’s had such a long path back to the belt.

  4. 757 says:

2006 ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ SOON WILL BE 8 YEARS AGO ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ COUNTLESS CHAMPIONS AND FIGHTERS POPPED FOR PED’S, MAIJUANA AND A HOST OF OTHER THINGS ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ PLEASE LEAVE IT ALONE. The fact is that Dana and the boys have given championship fights to several people at several weight classes that have done less. It’s BS the way they pick who gets the championship fights…period. The old 8 years ago he used steroids argument is exactly that OLD for God sake. Every major sport has people getting popped for stuff like that and they don’t punish athletes for the rest of their careers. BIASED BULLSHIT

    • Sasquatch says:

Lol.. Didn’t mean to put you to sleep, it is what it is. Vitor’s been thrown under the bus by his coworkers and boss multiple times recently with bad publicity so it’s pretty obvious what’s going on. It’s not the first time Dana’s used Lyoto to do his dirty work.. Machida vs. Ortiz

  5. Ddddddddd says:

Now their even throwing the kitchen sink at him. I absolutely agree with Sasquatch and the UFC. I think Vitor is a phenom but is the bad guy in the video game at the very end of the level. He’s Goro. Anyone knows when they cheat and get caught it’s going to haunt them.
