Dana White: If Wanderlei’s healthy, Sonnen vs. Silva will be UFC 167′s co-main event

As an in-studio guest on Wednesday’s “FOX Sports Live,” UFC president Dana White was asked to comment on a potential fight between Chael Sonnen (29-13-1 MMA, 7-6 UFC) and Wanderlei Silva (35-12-1 MMA, 5-7 UFC).

As you probably recall, “The American Gangster” called out the former PRIDE middleweight champion after earning a first-round submission win over Mauricio “Shogun” Rua at last weekends UFC Fight Night 26 event in Boston.

The UFC president had this to say about the potential bout:

“We can do that fight. The question, I think, is Wanderlei Silva is out until the beginning of the year. I’m not sure if he’s healthy. But if he’s healthy, I will definitely make that fight, and I will definitely make it the co-main event of UFC 167.”

UFC 167 takes place November 16 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. The event is headlined by a welterweight title fight between champion Georges St. Pierre (24-2 MMA, 18-2 UFC) and top contender Johny Hendricks (15-1 MMA, 10-1 UFC).

Sonnen is a bad match up for Silva, I wouldnt be surprised if Wand continues to find excuses to avoid the fight.

  2. ThaGreenBandit says:

…and the spoon feeding of Sonnen continues. Classice Grappler VS. Brawler matchup. Easy win for Mouth Almighty, although I’d love to see Wandi starch him in the first.

    • YEAH! Stop spoon feeding him Dana!!! says:

Chael’s had it so easy. Stop giving him scrubs, like Shogun…err wait, Shogun is a former champion. Make Chael fight, say, the P4P top fighters!! Yeah, err wait, he fought Anderson Silva twice already..and even Jon Jones.
I’m just glad Chael critics are now saying he’ll have an “easy win” instead of saying the opposite. They’re finally seeing the light!

  3. Gargoyle Wrestling says:

Great Set-Up. If Silva balks, we will ALL know why…I wonder why the wrestling based fighter’s NEVER seem to be gurt or balk at fights??? I wonder…could it be they are just tougher????
