Dana White: I know for a fact that GSP will return

By Evan Stoumbelis

It has been nearly 5 months since we’ve seen former welterweight kingpin Georges “Rush” St-Pierre in the octagon. After his controversial split decision win over Johny Hendricks, GSP decided he would step away from the sport for an indefinite period of time.

We didn’t know if GSP would return. He was taking shots at the UFC as well as President Dana White on their lack of interest in ridding the sport of PED users. His future with the company looked dim.

St-Pierre told the media about a month ago that he decided to step away for a while because he was in a battle of his own that nobody knew about – a battle with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. “Rush” told media that he was obsessed with becoming a better martial artist, and that he couldn’t sleep at night because of his obsession.

Now it seems St-Pierre has overcome his inner demons and is contemplating a return to Mixed Martial Arts action. Dana White spoke to the media yesterday about GSP’s future in the sport, saying:

(Quotes transcribed via MMA Fighting)
“I know for a fact he will (return). Is it fun for Georges St. Pierre to be gone? I mean, no, I wouldn’t say that it’s fun for him to be gone. But the welterweight division is exciting right now, and when Georges does come back, whoever’s standing there, it will be a fun fight.”

With Johny Hendricks and Robbie Lawler battling it out tomorrow for the now vacant welterweight strap at UFC 171, St-Pierre will know who he will likely be facing when he does decide to come back.

What are your thoughts on St-Pierre’s potential return? Sound off in the comments section.
