Dana White has been ‘talking’ to Roy Jones Jr about potential fight with Silva

By Evan Stoumbelis – @MMAEvan

MMA fans have heard how Anderson Silva wants to fight one of his idols, boxer Roy Jones Jr, a fight that makes zero sense to many fans. Dana White weighed in on the situation to MMAjunkie on Thursday saying

“Roy Jones Jr. is coming to the fight, Roy and I are talking.”

White went on to say:

“It makes no sense to me. It makes no sense to me, I don’t know why (Silva wants it). It’s like these guys, when they grew up, they had their heroes or whatever their deal is, it’s something they want to do or accomplish. This is something Anderson wants to do.”

Roy Jones Jr. hasn’t competed since June of 2012 when he won a split decision to Pawel Glazewski.

Anderson Silva on the other hand is defending his middleweight strap against Chris Weidman this Saturday at UFC 162.

  1. Donnie Lloyd says:

In a straight up boxing match? Roy Jones circa 2000 would kill the spider, right now Roy Jones wins by decision.

  2. Tito Gunner says:

It won’t be like Silva is fighting the Roy of glory days! I would watch but wouldn’t expect much. Still luv ya Roy.

  3. Ddddddd says:

I think Anderson should challenge Fallon Fox to come back to being a man and meet him at a catch weight. That’s what a real hero would do.

  4. mike says:

I wonder how Roy will feel about making $40,000 dollars for a fight? Definitely a new look for him.
