Dana White ‘guarantees’ GSP vs. Rory MacDonald UFC fight

Rory MacDonald (14-1 MMA, 5-1 UFC) scored a less than thrilling unanimous decision victory over Jake Ellenberger (29-6 MMA, 8-2 UFC) this past weekend at UFC on FOX 8 in Seattle.

Since “Ares” didn’t exaclty blow “The Juggernaut” out of the water, many are wondering what is next for the Canadian welterweight standout.

UFC president Dana White hinted that Rory’s next bout may be against “The Ruthless One” Robbie Lawler, who was also victorious at last weekends UFC on FOX 8 event, scoring a 2nd round KO over Bobby Voelker.

If Rory continues to win, he will eventually find himself in position to challenge for the welterweight title, currently held by teammate Georges St. Pierre (24-2 MMA, 18-2 UFC).

While both men claim that a teammate vs. teammate fight is out of the question, UFC president Dana White disagrees. Here is what DW had to say on the matter during the UFC World Press Tour stop in New York:

Those two will fight. Here’s what they’re not going to do: they’re not going to publicly sit here and call each other out and go up and see each other in the gym and face each other. They’re both professionals. They understand that they’re both on this path to collide, and I think when the day comes, they’ll deal with it then. I think that’s the way they’re looking at it, First of all, Rory lives in his house, meaning his gym. He lives in Montreal, trains with him, Georges says all kinds of good things about him. How weird would it be after the fight the other night if he got on the mic and said, ‘I want Georges St. Pierre and I want his belt’? It would be a little awkward flying back to Montreal and training on Monday, I think these guys are handling it like professionals, doing their thing and when the day comes when they’re there, I guarantee you they’ll fight.

A bout between MacDonald and St. Pierre is intriguing, but it will require some assistance in order for the proposed match-up to come to fruition. First of all, GSP will have to successfully defend his belt against #1 contender Johny Hendricks at UFC 167 later this year.

Secondly, “Ares” will likely have to score at least one more victory over a top-contender before getting a shot at his mentor.

If Dana White’s “guarantee” proves true, who do you see winning between the two Tristar Gym members? Let’s hear it Penn Nation!

Ur wrong Dana! These two guys will never fight each other ever! As for Robbie Lawler vs Rory sounds good! Rory will show Robbie where he stands in the WW div!

    • GOT RID OF FITCH (forever) thank god says:

GSP walks around ripped all roided UP at around 196-200 lbs. He would need to go off the JUICE for about 5 years and cut off a leg to make 155 lbs. What a pussy he;s afraid to fight at a weight class 15 lbs under what he walks around at.

BJ, Hendo, WAndy are the true P4p champs not afraid to fight bigger guys their entire careers. GSP is deathly afraid to fight up one weight class. Why do they have GSP on the p4p list is beyond me

GSP and ROIDY will NEVER fight in a million years

  2. boooooooooooo says:

awwwww gawd prepare the most boring fight in the history of the world…

no one wants to see GSP fight or Rory fight they are both hardly fighters but more or less sports athletes :(

  3. Big Daddy says:

Is it only me or does anyone else feel GSP is a bitch for even considering 155? I understand why they wanted to do silva vs GSP cause they had been the reigning champs for a long time. GSP and silva need to fight or move up in weight if they need a challenge.

    • trent says:

Yeah, he is a bitch! He thinks that doing a so called “super” fight with Benson Henderson will make the fans happy.
But in my opinion it makes GSP look dumb because he wouldn’t even consider a super fight with Anderson.
GSP has had a 4 year win streak of solely “decision” victories. He knew he would have got destroyed by Silva and kept talking about how he would have to take the time to put the weight on.

But now he wants to fight a lightweight. HAH. Bet he still doesn’t finish.

  4. doc says:

How the hell is GSP going to make 155?

  5. Gargoyle Wrestling says:

GSP will retire 70 champ, immediately get a title shot against Bendo and win there. Then he will retire 55 champ. get an immediate title fight at 85 and beat Weidman to be champ, then retire 85 champ and fight superfights for more moolah. Then he will be the first and ONLY 3 division champ and be the GOAT forever and ever!! Done. Good Plan.

  6. smoke says:

gargoyle u are out of your mind yea he would beat bendo but he will never make the weight and as for middleweight he will never beat wiedman or silva if he wins the rematch gsp relies on his str and control in his fights wiedman is way to strong for gsp and silva is to fast for him he will get fucked up, but as for his division no one and i mean no one will beat him. ps for the record i fuckin hate gsp but know he is kind in his div

  7. Sean says:

Hope Bj fights gsp at 155!

  8. maddkillah says:

i say a 12 round fight between GSP vs ben askren of bellator…

    • Sasquatch says:

Haha.. To be honest I wouldn’t mind seeing that, GSP would be too strong for that flounder Askren, he might actually get a finish.

      • Gargoyle Wrestling says:

No way Sas. I have rolled with Askren and outweigh him by 20 lbs. That dude is THE BEST ground fighter bar none!! GSP would not have a chance. The only way this guy will ever lose is if he catches a knee square.

        • Dan Jenkins says:

That’s funny “the best ground fighter bar none” you reckon, I’ve seen Askren get OWNED by Marcello Garcia who Askren outweighs, looks like you don’t know as much as you thought mate

        • Gargoyle Wrestling says:

Listen tool JenkyBoy. Let’s see what Garcia can do in an MMA fight. You think Askren was fighting him or training with him? You are so stupid in your comments. No experience know nothing. Askren would Fukc Garcis up in an MMA fight. Period!

  9. jay 79 says:

For all you guys ragging on at gsp about his victories do you not remember him breaking bj penn and in that fight bj wouldn’t come out for the final round also he broke kos’s oribital bone as well. Gsp didn”t take the silva fight because his friend weidmen wanted the shot and if gsp had of taken the fight his friend would have had to wait a lot longer and gsp knew how bad he wanted that shot

    • Tom says:

Right, because they weren’t trying to put the GSP – Silva fight together long before Weidman was the contender. Makes complete sense. If you don’t know about fighters and their histories don’t comment.

  10. 757 says:

GSP is a dominant champ but I don’t really care about him fighting Rory. DW is an asshole to his fighters so I hope it get’s poor response.

  11. Violent Marv says:

GSP: You can finish a fight?

  12. Nate "THE CHEAT" Marquardt (roid cheat) says:

GSP doesn’t take a dump with out an elaborate game plan
