Dana White: GSP’s Contract Is Frozen Until His (Possible) Return
Although his title has been relinquished and he has decided to take a break from competition, Georges St. Pierre will have his current contract waiting for him if he decides to return to MMA in the future.
St. Pierre didn’t explicitly say he would retire, and insinuated he could possibly return to the sport at some point down the road. UFC President Dana White said he won’t be voiding the champion’s contract, and said “His contract freezes. If Georges St-Pierre stays out for six months or six years, his contract is frozen. So when he comes back, his contract will start again with his first fight [when he returns].”
This means St. Pierre can still earn the high salary he has enjoyed while being the UFC’s top pay-per-view draw.
St. Pierre did not mention the word retirement, and he may return to the fight game at some point. White believes there is a good chance that St. Pierre will return to the UFC eventually and he said “Because he’s walking away,” White said, “it’s like you put a bookmark in it and wait to see how this story ends.”
